Timing belt came apart in 100 miles

Really old stock, perhaps? They don't exactly have an expiration date stamped on them. If it's only damaged in that one spot, then it was likely cut somehow, some way.

great... makes me feel good about going with a gates belt and having to do this in a week

I do agree it looks awful faded for just 100 miles.

Make sure that there is not a lose bolt in the bottom of the timing belt cover. That belt looks horrible for 100 miles.
