New to site, much needed input on an evo9 I'm interested in
He says he's owned it for about a year, bought it last November. I don't like taking people's word, made that mistake once before, the issue is he's in a different state, so finding a shop in his state that I don't know is also another challenge. I think it may be best to walk away on this one, if I owned an evo, I'd research and want to know my car in and out, he didn't seem to have any answers for my questions :-/
So I took a look at the car today, I'd give the body and interior an 8/10, a few dings here and there, front bumper could probably be repaired due to rock chips, from what I saw the under body is real clean, I didn't notice any rust, it has a small crack in the windshield, the motor does sound real good, can't see any leaks or ad normal noises. Checked the radiator and doesn't look like much was done with the turbo, he couldn't come up with any paperwork for anything and still didn't know about the timing belt and water pump. We only took it up the street but from the short ride it sounded good, he didn't beat it but got into it a little, seemed to shift fine. ( that's a problem with private party sale, everyone thinks you're a joyrider.) I offered him $15k, at which I thought was a good deal, it's been for sale for awhile now, he wasn't interested in that number. I guess the search continues !
Heh, how can you sell a car without a test drive? The clutch feel, any vibrations, pulling to one side, alignment issues, shifting, those are things you can only get from behind the steering wheel.
I had a lot of tire kickers when I was selling my last Evo. Everybody just wants to drive it and not prove they have any money. I drove each time on a test drive and told them they could drive once i get a legit offer. After like 12 people I finally had a kid meet me for the second time and go to a shop of his choice to have it looked at then he drove it around near the shop. He bought it that day. I understand not wanting to let everybody beat your car.
I can understand that though, unless the person is serious, although I'm not carrying 10k on me to look at a car. I had that happen when I was selling my civic si, everyone that test drove it didn't care about the shifting it handling, they just wanted to hit vtec and bounce it off limiter
