I drove from VA to CA a few months ago. There is nothing for you to be concerned about when taking your car across the country. The car does wonderfully on long trips.
No need to worry about gas much. There are gas stations every 30 minutes or so in the unpopulated areas. There are gas stations at every exit in normally populated areas. I was easily getting over 300 miles per tank (without seeing the low fuel light) driving at between 80-110mph. The high gas mileage comes from learning how to accelerate without bringing on the boost.
Pack a bottle of octane booster in case you get in a pinch and have to put in some gas that is less than 91 octane.
As noted above, get something to protect the nose of your car. It will get blasted by gravel and sand.

Two thoughts because Ive made similar trips... Miami to NYC and NYC to Chicago...
1) invest in a radar detector (for piece of mind) i choose K40 and let me tell you the tickets i would have gotten in GA would have made me sell the car
2) Have fun it is a blast for the Miami to NYC i figured i would stop somewhere and chill but once i got out on the road for a bit it was mcDonalds for lunch just so i could going and did the trip in one day Awesome I l;ove driving this car

Would have liked cruise control but wasn't too inconvienced by not having it. Seats were comfortable.
RADAR DETECTOR! Get a valentine 1. www.valentine1.com Its the BEST. Its $400 and u can only get it direct from them. Its worth every penny and costs a **** load less than any speeding ticket. Go for the best! The car will do fine.

My V1 saved my *** no less than 5times on my trip across the US. But I was assuming (which is bad) that most of the Evo owners have a good radar detector already!

I agree w/ Bogie re: lack of CC. I bought my Evo for driving between AZ and CA, and my right leg keeps falling asleep (I'm that guy you see hobbling around at gas stations). Oddly, I haven't had this problem w/ other non-CC cars on long trips.
Apart from that, 15-20 hours behind the wheel makes you appreciate the comfort of the cloth Recaros. Best seats I've had.
And damn can these cars pass!
Get that radar detector. A must, particularly in unfamiliar territory.
Happy Trails,

Dirk I Totally agree with you took a trip from Salt Lake City UT, to Atlanta GA almost 2000 Miles one hour sleep, stopping usually for gas and/or food, leg fell asleep too, was hoppin around all over the place when i got to atl, the next day i could hardly walk... very odd. And yes the seats are comfortable. As for the person who said gas stations are 30 minutes or so apart, At one point i actually thought i was gonna call AAA in Nebraska, cause the gas station is so far apart... i only get a bit over 210MPG weird how u guys get 300 + i gotta try that accelerating without boost thing. And to the Person who started this post, Definetly get the bra, and watch your windshield. RADAR DETECTOR a must, Got pulled over too no ticket though thank god....

The evo loves cruzin on the highway, you will just wish it had cruise control on that long of a trip.. Mine has made several trips to STL and to Up michigan from chicago. not a problem! ohh 1 hour in rush hour will put more strain on your clutch than this road trip!

For a long trip you right heal will go dead numb, and if you drive strait through without breaks for anything but gas like I do your right leg may cramp up. That is why I finally broke down and put the cruise control in.
