on the subject of oil change remember to look at the oil before you pour it in to your 4g63. last week i changed my oil and one of the quarts of Mobil 1 that I bought was mixed with water and other sludge. i'm switching to redline synthetic because they have better tamper proofing.

Ouch Max!

Last night I re-checked the recommended maintenance schedule for the Evo. Oil and filter changes are recomended every 5K miles or 5 months. For severe use the recomendation is every 3750 miles or 4 months.

Personally I always change my oil every 3k, no matter how hard or how soft I drive it. If you were extreamly brutal on the car...i.e. at a track if and when you go...I would suggest that it be changed right after the event.

My Mitsu dealer recommends every 5k or so, but I still go for 3k oil changes. Better safe than sorry.

Ouch! I'm assuming someone returned it and the store resold? Where did you get it?

I always use the rule that 1 track mile = 10 street miles. Until there's evidence to the contrary, I'm changing my oil once every 3k...

I'm not sure, but there was water and some other foreign stuff in there, luckily i noticed some wierd residue on the cap before i poured it in. I bought it from Fred Meyer which is a chain of stores that is like Target but they also sell groceries.

This subject seems to come up about once a month.

Why wouldn't you just follow Mistu's recommendations in the owner's manual? I would trust that much more that a bunch of opinions over the net. I don't have the manual in front of me, but it has two options--standard--every 5K and abusive situations--every3K. 99% of people could follow one of these two schedules. Many track drivers would do fine with the abusive schedule. If you are that 1% that does 5 plus track events a year, don't flame me. Most trackers do 3 or less events a year.

As someone else mentioned, oil & oil filter technology has come a long way and our current oils can last thru a ton of stuff.

Yet another opinion.

I would do it every 3,000. Do this...........pull out the dip stick right after doing an oil change. Then do the same thing at 3,000 miles, it looks bad.........
