PM me if you're still looking into this. I can analyze the material composition of this at my work. It won't be as exact as a lab-grade spectroscopy but it should be able to tell if the nickel & chromium content is in the right range for 304SS.
Regarding the magnetism, 304SS should be only very weakly magnetic but can show some increase in magnetism through cold working. Still probably not what was described above.

I have a full Megan Exhaust, and notice mine is rusting to bits ( no rust on any other parts of under carriage though ). Plus the sound is meh..

Can't wait to swap it out for a Greddy.

Do you have the bare or black painted one? You're not the first one to say this so my suspicion is that on the black painted one they just use mild steel and pass it off as 304 since the customer likely wouldn't notice a difference once unboxed

Where are you seeing that? When I bought it I was assuming that they weren't straight up lying on their product page: http://www.meganracing.com/about/products.asp

Says all their exhaust components are 304SS

Read again it says "found in" all of our exhausts products. That is different then saying all of the exhaust we manufacture and made entirely of 304 SS

If you look at the descriptions for the black series (http://www.meganracing.com/product_d...d=255&catid=18) VS the Turbo Type (http://www.meganracing.com/product_d...d=228&catid=14)

Read the descriptions, for the Black series wording: "This flat black coating also acts as an Anti-Corrosion layer that will enhance the durability of your exhaust" (Obviously you don't need an Anti-Corrosion coating with 100% 304 SS.)

Where as the Turbo Type and other types for other applications state in the description that that are made with 100% SS. Conversely none of the Black Series mention being 100% SS.

Word trickery, happens with millions of consumer products!!

^ I get what you're saying however by stating "found in all" would entail that all of their exhaust products are made with 304SS. How else could they make that claim?

Also, this is all irreverent as unless Im mistaken the OP's exhaust isn't even the black coated exhaust.

Theres a reason there cheaper than other manufactures. I would say megan is probably the better out of most of the Chinese built crap.

i thought it was widely accepted that megan racing is cheap ebay/chinese junk? i would personally be pretty stoked to get two years of use out of a $500 or less cat back. i think even if you had purchased a quality product with a large US market presence i would still be surprised to hear about them warrantying the product after two and a half years from the purchase, especially an exhaust which is directly exposed to elements, heat, corrosion, road dirt + salt ETC.

STM makes an aluminum (and a stainless) exhaust for not substantially more that will definately hold up to corrosion, much lighter and prettier than some Megan crap too.
