30.000 k

I found some youtube videos of cars with 30,000 K HID headlight bulbs. 30,000 K headlights are green. Reading the comments was interesting – things were said like, “You'll be arrested” or “You are a complete moron.”

I went looking for these videos after reading in Scientific American that the human brain is most sensitive to things that are green and pretty much ignores the color blue. At the time I didn't even know that there was such a thing as a green headlight.

The human eye contains cells with three pigments for absorbing light at different frequencies. One pigment is over in the blue and the other two overlap in the orange green area. The colors we actually see are manufactured in the brain. Anyway, with two of the pigments overlapping in the green spectrum it makes sense that we would see best in green light.

What I'm curious about is if anyone here has experimented with these lights. How well did you see using them and were you arrested - hah.

anything over 8000k is completely useless and is a shade of blue

i personally would never buy anything over 5000k, OE colors range from 3900k - 4300k typically

Go to youtube and type in "green HID headlights" and see more than half a dozen videos. Most of these seem to be about 5 years old so maybe a passing fad. I don't understand the light temperature standard but these are listed as 30,000 K and they are green. If you can't see, things aren't more visible, then using these is stupid but I do know that orange is more visible than the regular white HID's.

If I was into turning heads my car wouldn't go six months without a wash. I read in Scientific American that green is what humans see best. This circulated in my head for about six months and I'd never seen or heard of a car with green headlights. A couple of days ago I typed into youtube "green headlights" and up comes this stuff. So I was wondering if these bulbs put out any light and how visible the road is at night. So far I have one reply, a second hand account, saying they don't work. So, anyway, just curious.
