E85

recently, I've been getting less mpg on e85 usually I get 190 on whole tAnk but now it's about 160. I've been on e85 full time since last year September. Should I run a fuel injector cleaner from chevron to clean it? I know I've seen people with clogged injectors before so I'm a bit worried. I haven't tuned for 91 map yet either.

Hey, Im a Calif E85'r as well

Maybe youre just boosting more than usual

If youre concerned, I would just flush the fuel system w/91 for a couple of tanks & call it a day

If you really feel there is a problem, pull the injectors & inspect the tips

Is it necessary to flush it with 91 once in awhile?

it doesn't hurt, and it helps with the dreaded black gunk formation. That said, i have been running E-85 exclusively (not a single tank of 91) since 2010 with no gunk or problems. I have only ever run E-85 from California though which may be a factor.

Based on the info we learned in the E85 Gunk Thread, flushing w/91 was the preferred method as noted by a petroleum engineer

BTW, the cause of the gunk is noted in that thread as well

I personally know two people, in CA, that had engines die due to the gunk. Well, two people, three engines. Gunk is junk.

We only had one station, at the time. I've used it myself but I pretty much run a tank or two of 91 after every tank or two of 85. My only concern is EVERY time i put e85 in the car, I don't drive it for 1-3mos LOL

I've been using E85 with no 91 as well for a few months from CA too but it seems like I'm getting less MPG starting 2 weeks ago. I barely push the car too. i've been filling from the same station everytime. Guess i will fill up a 91 next time and see how that goes.

It may have to do with the "winter blend"? Maybe less ethanol means less MPG?

I think it's good to switch back and forth from pump gas to e85 from time to time. They clean eachother out! Please correct me or elaborate!

I know NorCal E-85 stayed the same year around because we do not get as cold here. Remember too your car will run richer during colder months and mileage will suffer. I see the same thing on all my petrol powered cars as well.

There are winter and summer petrol blends though. The price spikes when the refineries reformulate always cracks me up.

Less ethanol = more mpg.

In colder winter temps you will get less mileage with Ethanol. You also tend to boost more because it's cooler out.

I've been using E30-E80 in all my cars since the stations opened here in California in 2008. Nine years now. Zero issues.
