Pay to have a local shop (that knows evos) look the car over and give you a list of anything that needs to be repaired. If they find anything, which they almost assuredly will, use that to negotiate down the price.

Thank you but I do not have it yet. I am currently waiting for the seller to let me know a date and time he is available to have him go to a shop for a inspection/compression/boost leak test. We have agreed on the shop, so now just more waiting...

A lot of good information here for first time buyers. I have been searching for a IX for a while now. They seem to be beat up on, too much money, or sell extremely fast. Maybe another option Kevin is to offer one of the guys on the forum a small payment to check out your potential car. Never know could be a win/win for you and a forum member.

Id have someone you know or a reputable shop look at it before buying. With 80k i cant see it being worth more than 18k so i wouldnt go above that. Evos are scary to buy almost all of them are beat on at some point. I was fortunate enough to buy one off my buddy who got it bone stock off a lawyer in Georgia a few years back

After 1 week of not hearing from the seller, I got a reply today saying hes still waiting to hear back from the local shop we agreed on. If I hear anything new, I'll update this.

That sounds odd. I wonder if he had another offer on the table. Good luck though and keep us updated.

Makes me wonder if that, or if he plans on keeping the car. I hope not tho. There is another evo ix me in rally red about an hour and a half west of me for sale, but it has a lot of things done to it. (500awhp) That car looks gorgeous and is almost perfect to me with a very minor aesthetic change. That seller is also asking for more money than I would like to spend. Plus I want a car closer to stock, not someone else's build

Due to some unfortunate events over the past couple of days, I am no longer in a position to afford getting the evo. I've contacted the seller and he was understanding. He told me that when I can afford it again, to let him know and he'd be more than willing to sell it.

That seems like the hardest thing in the world to do. Majority of sellers won't even entertain that thought. I have had to pass on quite a few cars because of that.

Please, please, please.......for your own sake, NEVER buy a car that has rust no matter how easy you were told it is to fix. Its like cancer and keeps coming back!! Take your time and congrats on the upcoming purchase. My Evo is the most fun I've ever had driving.
