trying too buy right parts for exhaust need help

Hello guys i have a stock evo 8 and still relatively new too my evo. only had it for 6 month, i wanted too open up my air flow so i went out and bought a 3" greddy ti exhaust from a guy and he threw in his hi-flow cat for cheap. he also has a straight pipe and im considering in buying it but still dont know if i should. will straight piping my evo damage anything down the line? because im wonderig why this guy took all these parts off when they were in good condition. also anyone know of some decent quality down pipes that i can get, thank you.

The only thing a straight pipe will hurt is the environment.

For a downpipe, I would recommend a Recirculated O2 Housing Downpipe Combo:

No, the straight pipe takes the place of the cat/high flow cat.
