06 Evo 9 mr or 03 evo 8

so I'm looking to buy an evo but deciding wether to buy the evo 9 mr for $15k with 110k miles, or the 03 evo 8 with 93k miles for $12k. The MR has a swapped 5 speed in it. What do you guys think I should go with?

*UPDATE* the guy with the MR blew his tcase.

Really need more info on the card to give an opinion.
If both cars are equally solid and clean, then go with the MR, but just because it’s newer and a MR model doesn’t mean it’s nicer.

The MR is actually nicer. Just has more miles than the evo 8.

If it is truly the better conditioned car, then go MR

Agree with all, went from a low mile, but well used 8 to a high mile, cared for, IX MR.

Would do it again in a heart beat. It's understated how much nicer of a feel the little changes make.

Honestly go with the MR if it is Nicer, currently in an 03 VIII and love it, but definitely going to be getting a IX MR if i can in the next 2 years.

Don't buy the MR.

Unless someone is tracking the car or blew a transmission, there's no reason to swap a 5-speed into an MR. All that tells me is that the owner had issues with the 6-speed and didn't want to pay to fix it correctly

So because they changed it, don't buy it?

Everyone on here damn near screams "5 speed swap it, 6 speeds are junk"

Too many factors that could have gone into this, as long as it's done correctly, why would there be an issue?

He swapped to a 2.4 block, don't buy it.

He changed the transfer case, don't buy it.

He put an air freshener in it, don't buy it.

He drove the car like it was intended, don't buy it.

All I'm saying is that it lends the belief that the car was driven hard. Not saying that's the end of the world, just saying that can also bring problems with it if not well maintained.

Check them both out, test drive, look at service records and make the choice from there. 8 or 9 you'll still be smiling (thumb)

typical....ask for advice then **** on the stuff you don't want to hear. How about a "Thanks experienced evo owner (who also happens to be a MODERATOR on this site), your insight is much appreciated." You made the right move coming here and asking for advice, now follow up on that good move by actually heeding it.
