I used some of the Krylon high heat on the turbo heat shield for my Supra. Turned out very nice and has held up extremely well in the year it's been on so far. I got it at Fred Myers (don't think they have those on the east coast?). But any parts store like Pep Boys should have it too.

I agree with SC it's good stuff, and very easy to work with.

However, I dont have any previous experience with this paint. This is what I plan on using when I get my exhaust.
This stuff would prob be more appropriate for folks who want to paint their downpipes and cats....since EGT's can rise up pretty close to that rated number.

But if you are just painting the axle back portion of the exhaust, the 1200 degree paint should work perfectly.

I got the paint today - I am trying to get it done this weekend. I finally got my Fairfax County sticker today and put my front plate in the windshield (at least until my new bumper comes in). F'in cops will have to have a damn good reason to pull me over...

Holy smokes dude! The Fairfax PoPo have it out for you!

Once you get your **** together in terms of your stickers, plates and de-bling your exhaust you should be okay. The blacked out muffler will go along ways to keeping a low profile. Of course you do have that ricey lookin' high wing...

Once I actually get my turboback I'll be painting the whole thing flat black as well. SC, do you really think the DP will hit > 1200degrees?? I am going to run a test pipe so I'm not worried about cat heat levels...

The Krylon stuff is so much easier to get than the VHT stuff...

Also is there really a need to sand the surface? If so what kind of scotchbrite pads are we talking about here?

Well, what sorts of exhaust temps are people reading with their EGT gauges? I thought a pretty normal number to see on one of those gauges is a bit over 1k degrees F....and upwards of 1300 if the car is being flogged. I guess the outside temp of the pipe would be a bit less than the temp of the exhaust gasses themselves.

But paints I have seen only withstand 500 or 800 degrees. I know, first hand, that this 'bbq paint' stuff isn't even stout enough to holdup to the temps of a 40 year old British car much less a heat generating turbo car. So, the higher the temp rating, the better!

What are actual laws on exhausts? If they're too loud then you get a fix it ticket?

If you argue about the decible measures, is there a chance they'll actually test it with the decible meter?

How loud are Harleys?

I'm in VA to and there's no love for supra's either. I got rid of my APexi GT spec and made a new mid-pipe and catback out of 4"ID with a magnaflow muffle. Way louder, but I had Jet-hot coat the whole thing in the jet hot 2000 Black coating. Flat black and very stealth. No problems in over 3 months. I usually don't even get a second look from VA finest. (I do push in the clutch when goin by )

The law in VA is a VERY subjective "louder than stock" rule. I was actually pulled over by a cop (on a Harley, of course!) but only got a verbal admonition. Fairfax County specifically is very **** about everything. I was in a more southern county today and drove right by a roadblock past 3 sheriffs w/o my silencer and they didn't even give me a 2nd glance.

Chris - let me know if you have any extra paint, I'm curious to see yours and maybe I want to do it too...

I left the paint at Ultor's house (my donation for his help and tools, etc.). Check with him about using more.

I will post pics of the results (esp. good because it will have been on about a month by then) in a couple of weeks after my car is finished...
