Why are CoPart Evolution 8/9/X so cheap?
USDM to USDM makes the most sense. Nobody is importing a totaled car to the US.
Anyway, I'm just hear for said deals, I haven't actually checked copart for evos before, figured they wouldn't hardly ever get them. But I could use a parts car or two. Or something I could build into a rallyx car...

Hey all, this the OP. Interesting thread thus far! Yeah, I'm in Virginia which is in USA and CoPart operates internationally. I think we can all conclude that the Evolution lineage is getting rare whether you're talking about 8/9/X. I'm just shocked at how low they're priced. And the fact that anyone can bid on these things (not require a dealer license) should make this place a god-sent paradise for car enthuists as long as they're ok with putting in the wrench time and an obvious rebuilt title. But even if you're not, having a parts car and doing a side business of part-outs probably wouldn't be a bad idea I imagine.
Just a shame to see all these Evolution's go to waste when some of them look just to be cosmestic damage. But i digress, some of these may be a can of worms just waiting for a unsuspecting buyer.

Y'all should have seen the run on salvage Neon SRT-4s back in the day. They were crashed at an alarming rate, now you never see them driving around.
I trust the "hammer" prices of these Evos isn't just $2,000 - salvage yards aren't stupid and they know what the going rate is on the good bits from an Evo. It does need to be said that a massive gamble is being taken on the car's mechanical condition, as well as its ability to be repaired if you do choose this route. I bought my Evo 1 wrecked in 2008 for $2,200 and it really didn't come in much cheaper to fix all of its issues and make it presentable, compared to just buying a good one in the first place.

Nothing fixes a broken transmission or rod knock like a hydro pole. As my father always said about cars at salvage auctions - "they ain't there because they're pretty".
