EVO 1-3 R35 coil kits (DSM 1g/2g/VR4)
After using the R35 coils on a wide range of engines over the years all with great results i've been considering adding them to my personal 4g63 for a long time. Now that the stock 4g63 coils are not providing enough spark to run more than ~18psi it is time to upgrade!
Here are the 2 EVO 1-3 (1g/2g DSM) R35 coil kits i'm looking at now:
VE R35 coil on plug kit for EVO1-3 and DSM
PRP R35 COP kit for EVO 1-3

Anyone else here run the R35 coils on there early 4g63 yet? I know the coils work extremely well but i'd love to see some other pics on the 4g63.

Something is very wrong with your car if you can't run 18 psi on the stock ignition. The stock coils should handle 400HP no problem, and upwards of 1000 with an amplifier.
If I were to upgrade, I'd be using Ohm Racing's IGN-1A kit, which blows the R35/Hitachi coils away. Lower cost, twice the ignition power.

The only reason for the coil swap was to loose the 30 year old oem coils/igniter that yes in good condition can support 400hp no problem but after 30 years mine are pretty tired. Ecu also has 4 available coil outputs so being I needed to replace coils anyway I went with something that would allow me to take advantage of direct fire instead of wasted spark.
I went r35 coils as I wanted a true COP with no plug wires, I also like how low profile the r35 coils sit in the valve cover. The R35 coils do everything I need for the little vr4 rally set up and super easy to source coils at almost any Nissan dealer or parts store if a replacement is ever needed.
don’t get me wrong the GM style coil near plug set up is great and those coils put out a lot of spark, just not the right fit for this particular car

Used the V.E. R35 coils with extended boots. https://brewedmotorsports.com/produc...-igntion-coil/
So far so good, can't believe it took me this long to replace the tired *** OEM coils :P
For those who's OEM coils are still healthy and you don't have any spark blow out issues, you lucky dogs you. I did plugs and wires with OEM coils only to have the same spark blowout issues so rather than hunting down another oem set of coils i just went to COP.

I’ve been running the R35 coils on my sr20 now for nearly 2 years and just ordered 6 more for my RB25.
I love these coils, simple 3 wire, easy to fit in just about anything and super hot spark.

Just tuned a car running the latest version of the VE R35 COP kit and they have a new harness that is super nice! New harness uses proper motorsports thermal sleeve not the braided nylon loom. New COP harness also adds a dedicated cylinder head grounding point as well as keeps a chassis/battery ground point in the 6 pin DT connector. (stronger spark from better grounding setup.)
I'll see if i can get the guy to send me some pics as i didn't take any.....

How did you set up your system? Did you get it with the harness? I would get this system including the harness but need to know how to wire it up for plug and play.
Any insight?
Thanks
We sell a PnP COP system with authentic Hitachi R35 GT-R coils. We've had great feedback since releasing them back in 2017 and we haven't had anyone max them out yet. Our kit includes everything you need to quickly swap out the factory coils to a COP system. You can find options and prices here: JDC Premium COP Ignition System with GT-R Coils (Evo 4-9)

for 1-3 / dsm these are the only 2 r35 coil kits I know of.
VE R35 coil on plug kit for EVO1-3 and DSM
PRP R35 COP kit for EVO 1-3
I’m sure you could also make your own mounting plate easy enough with a little time
