Forbes 2004 best sedan poll (please vote)
All of you who voted for Evolution as a best sedan (not mentioning the $), you are all NUTS.
If I had a pick from that list, E55 AMG hands down. That car is not only luxurious and comfortable, it's faster and corners better than EVO at about 500 pounds more weight and NO LAG.
I may drive Evolution but I don't think it's the best sedan, (without $ considered into it)
But with Money in consideration, I would think the RX 8 would be cheaper and has that engine sound you can't beat in that class. I think Evo really does miss that sound of the roaring engine.
Then again, I don't think RX 8 is in the same class as EVO. They should have a new section for STI and Evo, since you can't really put them anywhere... It wont be fair comparison for other "unfortunate" cars.
That's what I think.

p.s. the E55 AMG isn't a manual. Sissy cruiser car.
john
It shifts faster than manual, with the sequential shifter. I agree it's sissy, but that sissy is fast and corners better than... ummm, what are we again? sissy on streoids? lol.
BTW Butt dyno, that GIF pic on your signature, I have that movie. "ah, amore"
I thought that thing was pretty funny, especially the part where he passes over that fat chick with buck tooth.
"I have Money!!", "I love you".

how do you know the merc corners better? have you tried cornering with it? remember how many G's it pulls on a skidpad doesnt have anything to do with how well its balanced in the corners.... all that weight is going to be thrown around in the chacanes
it pulled .9 G and did the slalom in 69 mph +
It's got like 80 processors or so (your computer has one processor) to control just about every aspect of cornering. It's not that primitive like US EVO or any other thing under $40,000. (I say primitive, because EVO missing Active YAW control in US models).
it does 0- 60 in 4.6 and does the 1/4 mile in 12.9 sec with automatic.
it's reviewed on Car and Driver current or last month. My bathroom reading.
On top of that, I tried to race one and it ate me alive in cornering and acceleration. I redlined all the way just to keep up with the bastard, with another passenger in his car.
It's not like racing a M3, which I've done, where I was forced to race it and did well (with $30,000 less vehicle).
Go pick you up a copy.

Car and Driver May 2004 Pgs. 55 - 57
CLK55 AMG
$80,695
0-60 4.5
1/4 13.1 @ 109mph
70 - 0 158
300ft skidpad .87g
Lane CHange 71.4mph
mpg 15 city 22 hwy
Cloudy feel of the Controls, slack brake pedal action.
If you are a cruiser/commuter its cushy... If you are a driver/lapper it'll overheat the tires and brakes within a lap and those numbers drop like a rock. Might want to work on the reading comprehension on the throne..

Yes mister. Then again, I could probably tell you that most of the brakes and tires do heat up and drop numbers for any car. But E55 does maintain constant maintenance on those points to adjust the suspension as those adverse effeccts take place.
I wouldn't want to take that to the track tho, because I live in real world where theres traffic lights and I got grocery to carry home. I like to take long trips as well. In that point, it's faster, comfortable and it's almost a perfect sedan.
I think if I was a "Driver" (in your term a street racer) I would strip my car bare like RS and live in the mts.
I don't think the level of cloudy feel and slack brake pedal action is bad as you think. Of course in a line of miserati and porsches, yes, it's slacky, but these cars are well beyond our level of comprehension in technology.
So, maybe you should learn how to read between the lines with some street smarts before you start yepping... I'm glad you could read tho.
I got those numbers from memory and I think I was fairely close... it's car and driver and BMW comparison data from my friend who works at Global Bmw, atlanta.
but you have your preferences and I have mine. And I'm sure we drive EVo for two very different reasons.
I love it when people have PHD in *******ology.

You need to really work on your reading comprehension as well as some others.. Street Racer? beyond level of comprehension in technology?
You might want to consider attending a high performance driving training event sometime soon to get a better idea of what your mistaken about.
On the street, getting groceries in a corrolla is as capable as any car in the C&D comparison. In most any competent drivers hands it is much faster then those compared in the C&D article or an Evo driven by an unskilled loud mouth who couldn't reproduce those numbers on a $1000 bet.
And as mentioned early on in this thread, what a person's interests are, primarily determines what their best sedan is. It's a subjective poll, not an objective analysis. Someone who runs around local circuits every other weekend and still enjoys stret legal abilities to drive it to and from the track instead of loading and unloading and having to return home before heading out to dinner might rate certain capabilites higher than another person. For that person an $80,000 sedan tha you aren't able to notice any difference while remaining a legal upstanding citizen, and when going to the track would find the car out of tires and brakes before the first session was over would be a bad decision. Then again if you're going to drop 80 large for a sedan you can only use 25% of in public, why not drop another $10k for upgrading the brakes and tires to keep up with the $30k stock sedan at the track.
Evos are drivers cars meant for those who drive. Driving isn't legal on any public roads I know off, minus the hanful of open road races around the country every month or so. Other Sedans are more geared toward the masses and cruising and commuting, in which case whats 350+ hp going to do for you but rack up tickets and endager others?
But I guess it takes comprehension of the varied world we live in to follow that.

all i hear is blah blah blah.
get over yourself, internet freak. You take this like your life is depended on it.
it's not a ferrari yet.
sorry, i didn't read all that stuff up there.
I'm still for the E55 AMG.
edit: i read some of your stuff. corolla? come on now. You know why I bought this car. Everyone in this forum bought this car for just about the same ball park reason.
If I follow your point, minus those idiotic "reading comprehension" comments, why do you even bother with EVO? why not take that money and build a home made F1 car? Compare to a race or track car, EVO's not even in a ball park. If that's your subjective idea of a car? Why do you even need a backseat and 2 more extra doors? Why do you even need a trunk? Why not get a RX-7 and put another rotor in it? Why not get a supra and take that to the circuit? Why not buy an Audi S4 and play with that?
I bought this car so I don't have to attend some class that I don't need to take. It's already figured out for me. Subjectively, this car looks good, it goes fast when I want it to go fast and usually under 3k rpm it drives like a corolla.
So why do you get so upset online? About some stupid thing you know nothing about? I'm 100% positive that you do not own a tuner shop and I'm sure you spent a bit more time learning about this stuff. But why do you force your useless ideas on me? It's like a nascar fan telling me going in circle real fast is the coolest thing in the world.
I'm glad you're enthusiastic about this car, but there is a thin line of obsessing over it and just being crazy.
Take your car to the track, i don't care. Go stick your ***** in your Evo's exhaust pipe and make love to it. I don't care.
I still think E55 Amg is a better car then Evo and I still think there is no way in hell, you are going to convince me otherwise. We don't all live in a track set mind. We have a life and i've learned it long time ago, that car is just a thing in that big part of life.
Don't loose your sleep over it. In the end, they're all just a hunk of metal and plastic. It's just that some hunk of metal could save us from boredom sometimes.

well... maybe I was bit harsh. All is forgotten.
Bsides, I don't see any blood..
ZX2? You there?
My .02
The MB is typical of the Autobahn Bruisers..(M5 et al) As a transplanted and still passionate German car freak, those cars have always been the performance and handling standard of what the others were judged.
You think an E55 is fast, ever drive in an AMG "Hammer" or a Schnitzer or Alpina tuned M5 ??
You would forget about the E55 and M5 in a heartbeat. And be like, EVO??! What the hell is an EVO ??!
Those German aftermarket tuners (Koenig,Strosek,Alpina, Schnitzer, Hartge, etc) make our stateside tuners look like pretty much what they are: (forgive me)..garage hacks.
They are some of the few tuners recognized by the mfg's and actually produce "factory built" tuner cars with full factory warranty by MB and BMW. There R and D monies alone would make you choke!
And at the International Auto show in Frankfurt?? Those "tuners" had a whole showroom area in the BMW building!! (yes, BMW had a whole freakin building)
I for one love the EVO. Pick between the E55 or the EVO if you gave me a car? C'mon. I would take the E55.
But I would pick an M3 CSL before either. (E46) That ****ers got an 8 banger and I heard it is SICK.
