Car Transport Companies
Anyone have any companies they prefer/avoid for car transport? I have used Montway in the past and had decent results, but it has been a while.
I've used Reliable Carriers and Dispatch Dudes in the past, enclosed shipping with both. Reliable is at the high end of the spectrum and is priced like it but they do discounts if you insure your car with Hagerty. Reliable owns all of their trucks, employs all of their drivers and is a much more professional operation. My car was delivered by a married couple that communicated well and showed up when they said they would. The downside to Reliable and companies like them (Horseless Carriage, InterCity and so on) that don't sub out their work is they take longer to pick up your car. I waited 3 weeks for Reliable to get my car.
Dispatch Dudes is like most transport companies in that they don't own anything. They are a middle man so they take your order then find a shipping company to actually transport the vehicle. As such they have much less control over the driver and kind of truck that is used. They can get your car quicker because they have a much wider range of trucks available to them and they're cheaper than companies like Reliable but their insurance is sketchy. They will tell you something like "we're insured to a half a million dollars" but when you push for details many of those dispatch middle men can't provide much. Half a million in insurance isn't much if it had to cover a whole truck full of high dollar enthusiast cars. Dispatch Dudes ultimately got my car to me undamaged but it was delivered by a somewhat shady feeling driver and I made payment by Venmo'ing $2k+ to a random email address. The guy looked at me like I was crazy when I said I wanted to send $1 to make sure I had the right account first.
I used Reliable first then Dispatch Dudes. I only plan on using Reliable and companies like them who actually employ their own drivers and own their own trucks in the future.
