here is what carmax gave me on trade-in
here is what carmax gave me on trade-in
I traded my unmodified EVO to carmax and got $24,000. It was a white 2003 EVO with moonroof and wing - 2400 miles. Thought you might be interested in the trade-in value for a low mile extremely clean EVO, as of this month.
I could of sold it outright and got more probably, but I did not want to go through the hassle of selling it and the trade was used to reduce taxes.
Why did I sell it? I regularly switch cars.
Likes - Handled fantastic, was relatively quick once moving.
Dislikes - Crap clutch, shifting at high rpm was troublesome, interior was garbage and I could never get over the lack of low-end grunt. I was always in big displacement cars that had tons of torque on tap early.
I will always smile when I see one on the road
Good Luck to all of the EVO owners out there !

You did a little better than me. Carmax offered me $22.5 for a stock EVO with 8200 miles. I'm trying to sell privately for $24k, a buyer from the SRT forum is coming by tomorrow.
Good luck with whatever you get next.

not bad for a trade in... most dealers are trying to ***-rape us with a 20K trade in...
so, what did you get in place of it...?
i'm not sure about your "relatively quick once moving" comment was supposed to mean though... i mean 0-60 in less than 5 seconds is not "quick"...? how many other production cars that cost less than $60K can make that claim...?

I will stick with my relatively quick once moving comment.
To get your EVO to do a 5 sec 0-60 you WILL smoke your clutch and destroy your driveline. It is only a matter of time. The EVO was not designed for hard launches.
The reality is -- You need a high RPM launch with good clutch / throttle technique, then you have to hope your EVO will actually go into 2nd without a grind/miss.
But I did not buy the EVO for hard launches or quarter mile times. There are plenty of cars that can would that better. Even the new Pontiac GTO can do better. The EVO was a blast to drive and I am not bashing it.
I got a M3 now

The GTO costs more and is a completely different car (RWD, high displacement, not to mention 80 more horsepower and at least 50 more lb.tq.).. I agree you have to kill the clutch to do a nice luanch, but that's the reality of AWD. And if it is that bad, one needs to get an aftermarket clutch, especially Exedy, I've heard way to many good things about it. Still, the evo was made to compete in the curves, not the srtaight, although 10.6 sounds pretty good from a 4 door, 4 cylinder econobox
