Emissions and EVO mods

From what I've read, the EVO is going to be my next set of wheels. Has anyone here had experience with the outragous emissions laws in PA with respect to mods? I don't want to rip the car apart every time I need my windshield sticker replaced. I'm thinking along the lines of intake / exhaust / and boost control - the "simple" mods.

Thanks!

I passed the CA smog test a few weeks ago with an intake and a turbo back exhaust with aftermarket cat. CA has the most stringent emissions tests in the US.

But in PA, there is a very rigorous visual and safety inspection that goes along with that emissions test. So you might pass the sniffer test....but you might fail the visual inspection test if they have any problems with the parts you have installed. You just have to find a shop that doesn't seem **** about aftermarket part installs....ie, don't go to the dealership!

SC~ who knows because he only moved away from PA 2 years ago.

TY, SC! I'm wary of dealerships no matter how you slice it. I haven't opted for dealer service since the early 90's due to the shaft-matic adjustable estimate. I'm pretty much DIY unless it's sticker time. So are there numbers or something stampled into the OE parts that they have to look for?

I would bet that you will not be satisfied with a few simple mod.s if mods are what are going to determine if you go with an Evo or not given that the car is rather hot right out of the box. I actually told my wife that I would not need to do anthing to it (did not promise her I wouldn't though, as if she would have believed that). However, not to worry, the mod.s you are talking about are no big deal to install, or reverse if the need arises, so go for it. Oh! get the MR.

From what I remember, the PA inspection process was rigorous, and MOSTLY subjective in nature. If I were you, if they gave you a hard time about any mods, just tell them that they are stock parts. Most of the guys who work at those places have no idea what your Evo is, or how the stock parts should appear.

I'd think he could get away with an intake/exhaust/mbc(if well hidden)/ and an ecu reflash...and not have any problems with emissions in PA.

Schweet! I been using the same lil shop for several years now. They're very savvy on what's out there, but they're also is very customer satisfaction oriented. You've put my concerns to rest. Thanks again, SC!

WR, the MR looks like a winner! Maybe I'll wait til fall to drop bank, but driving around in a 1992 Ford Tempo is total dung - especially with a Celica All Trac with a smashed front end collecting dust in storage (Blind Corner + Deer + Reflex + Guardrail + No Collision Ins = my baby in storage since 11/2002 + driving a POS Tempo that can't get out of its own way on any road surface going downhill with a stiff tail wind.) I'm a bit concerned about getting the EVO too powerful for daily use. Seems like a realistic possibility even with the simple mods. Especially with the amount of traffic around Harrisburg and the trend to force all the woodland creatures out into the country roads to make room for luxury home developments. Grrrr. I'm not bitter...really...
