The STi is noticably softer and more compliant on bumpy roads. The Evo is much more fun on smooth, twisty roads...but it can be a little too much on pothole-riddled city streets.

I'm not sure what you're getting at here. The Evo engine is certainly more aesthetically pleasing. It has more upgrade potential. And crucially, for track-oriented people (like me): it's accessible from the engine bay. You can easily pop off the cam-covers, change sparkplugs, etc. in the Evo whereas the STi engine is buried under heaps of ancilliaries. When you look under the hood of the STi, all you see is an intercooler and alternator. I can't even imagine how you'd get at the plugs at trackside.

Having said that, the STi engine is bigger by half a liter, more powerful in stock form by a small margin, and has a less laggy delivery. The low-end torque and reduced turbo lag are noticable compared to the 4G63T in the Evo 8.

Haven't they cracked the ECU codes on the STis now? I was assuming the STis with thier power currently are running with only decent engine tuning. Does that make the STi now easier to upgrade? I dunno, just throwing some questions up in the air.

The Evo feels and looks cheap at first, but after living with it you appreciate the great engineering behind it...
Hey Online,

You and I are in agreement regarding the G35 but just the other day I saw an ad in a magazine that Greddy has a twin turbo kit available for the G35 - Watch Out!

after doing some onlne research and reading your posts, looks like im going to go with the Evolution. Black...with some nice black rims with polished lip in the future =) ...can't wait. Now i gotta start shopping around for one, gotta go do some test drives. Thanks again for all your help!
And so, you have come to the same conclusions that I did...Good luck!

That's what I believed at first, but for some reason me and two other Evo friends couldn't keep up with the STi at the twisties, but on the highway we pull ahead. I really don't understand.

There are lots of possible explanations, ranging from mods to the STi suspension (there are TONS of upgrades on the market) to different levels of driver skill.

I'm a driving instructor and I have friends with both STi's and Evos of various generations (going all the way back to the P1 and Evo 5). I've driven both cars extensively on the street and track. Stock for stock, the Evo 8 easily out-handles the STi by quite a large margin. Modified cars are obviously a different story.
