Angry "Rats" I got cought in a hail storm

In St.Louis yesterday, I got caught in a hail storm that lasted about 30 min.

I have dents all over: fenders, window trim, top, hood, and trunk lid. Even paint chips on hood and around wheel wells.

Anyone had a simular incident happen to them in the past?

How was the repairs?

I don't see how they will repair this.

Even dealerships sale hail damaged cars, obviously due to they couldn't be repair.

I have State Farm and they said they will contact me due to several hail claims coming in, and will send us to a location to be accessed and checks cut.

I don't know what to expect, esspecailly with the Evo. having aluminum hood and front fenders. That being least or more expensive.

I don't even have my personalize plates on the car yet

I wouldn't worry about it too much. I live in Iowa and we get hail from time to time(aka last week, but my car was inside!!). I did however own an acura that got hail damage bad a few years ago. I had dents on almost all body panels and a cracked windshield. Just let your insurance handle it. The worst that can happen is your insurance totals the car and you get a new one. I feel for ya though, I was pissed when I woke up and saw my old Integra demolished.

That sucks. I know when I used to be stationed in Oklahome hail damage was a big issue. I would always drive to the nearest car wash or under pass. Anyway, they had body shops that would specialize in hail damage, I think they even had special insurance to cover it. I've seen some cars that had been repaired from it and you could'nt tell the difference. Just shop around untile you find a body shop that has dealt with it before. They should be able to take care of you.

I was cought in a hail storm once with my eclipse but I got lucky and the inch sized ***** didnt leave any marks on the car( dont know how I got away with that one). My head didnt do so well when I got out of the car and I got hit a few times. There are body shops that will massage the dents out from in side the panel(like the dentless repair guys) and most of the time will leave no trace of the damage unless there was a crease; in that event body work will have to be done.

Well the main problem will be the aluminum hood and fenders. You can't just pop out dings and dents in aluminum. They will likely have to replace those parts. That will add a good bit to the price of this repair.

I remember when I lived on the east coast, I used to fear the 'severe weather' warnings when they noted that hail was seen in the area. For a few years I had no garage to put my cars in.....I used to go out and drive to the nearest parking garage....or I would place a few beach towels on the car, and then put on the car cover in the hopes that it would lessen any impacts. Luckily, I never personally experienced hail damage.

Lets hope they just replace most of the parts, cause if they do, couldn't you just get carbon fiber hood, trunk and etc? Sorry to hear about your car though.

I moved away shortly after the Northridge Quake. I still have pictures of the 14 fwy pillars standing with rebar sticking out where there used to be road. Also, the week before the 880 fell down I had driven up thru SF on my bike and noticed that you could see the bay thru the joints. I think I would rather have some ice ***** drop on my car rather than a friggin road.

That sux man. You got to take it the paintless dent removal guys. I'm sure they will have tents set up all over the place after this crazy weather we're having right now. I'm soo sick of this hale. I actually got stuck at walmart today b/c a tornado came through. THey made everyone in the store stand against the back wall for 20 mins. When I came outside, my car was in the middle of a 4 inch river flowing through the parking lot.

But yeah, the paintless dent removal works great. A friend of mine bought a new car from a dealership that had a lot of hail damage. He got a real good deal on it and the dealership sent it through one of those tents and it came out looking good as new.

Edit:
Heres a pic of a guy's supra out in manchester/ballwin. Had two inches of water inside his car.

My evo survived two floods with water higher than that. I was suprise how sealed tight the evo it, It went up pass the door sill and no water got in.

We had a hailstorm in VA here a couple nights ago. I'm on the phone with the g/f and am like "holy crap, it's hailing, gotta go put the cover on" and hung up on her (she understood )

So there I am outside in a thunderstorm, like an idiot, getting pelted with marbles putting the cover on my EVO. Two minutes, completely drenched. However, I caught it in time and no damage. Whew.

As for repairs, my g/f's mom had severe hail damage on her Mazda a few years back (looked like a golf ball). Paintless dent removal, covered by insurance completely (no deductible, USAA), and the car looks like it never happened. There were probably like 100 dings in it.

Good luck on the repairs.

Speaking from experience here...

About 3 years ago when the bigger hail storm came through in April, I think I was one of the worst hit in all of St Louis.
I owned a 2001 Celica GTS with about 6500 miles on it - my baby was about 6 1/2 months old. I had....get this.... $7000 in damage on it, including a busted rear window. A friend counted the dents on the hood and roof only, and stopped about 150. These were all very noticable - even from like 50 feet away.

I have (and still do have) State Farm Insurance. My advise - find your trusted repair place, and make an appointment ASAP. There's going to be a line. I waited until I got my estimate, and then went looking for a place to get it fixed. I was told about 7-13 months at various places.

I ended up selling the car since I didn't want to wait that long. I got basically blue-book out of it, so I didn't make a profit or anything. Oh well.

Oh, I my car got hailed on yesterday briefly as well. It was parked at work, near the airport. I think it was small enough to be ok though. I'll have to wait for a sunny day to figure out for sure.
