Jeremy (and others) I imagine it will be the first thing they complete for the Evo, and would do a very very very very uneducated guess (with no more knowledge than you have Jeremy) that they will be out middle to late springtime (since they're very busy with other stuff untill April)...

Assuming that it works like the AccessPort, you will be able to have (I think two, but maybe more) timing/fuel maps to switch between.

I thought you and your dad had all the connections at COBB for inside information Jake

I will wait and see when it comes out but it may be how I get rid of my flash.

He does, but he doesn't care about the Evo, only how soon they will let Eric/Christian work on the S2000... He doesn't want me to be faster than him, I'm 50whp less than him and only about a second or 2 behind him at Spring Mountain.

It is definitly how I am getting rid of my flash, the real question is if I am going to spend any more money to get faster or not... If I do, then cams and the Accessport will be the next things, but I'm not getting cams untill I can get the Accessport, I don't feel like mailing my ECU in to Al.

The price (for anyone interested) btw, will most likely be that of the Suby Accessport system, roughly 695 dollars. The real question is if they are going to make a bunch of different maps and make them available like the Subarus (kinda like Vishnu), if that is the case... I hope many of us can be "test" cars... or at least get a good deal on tuning and buying an Accessport system. There are enough of us with different set-ups to get them on their way at least.

Would they partner with a particular tuner for the specific flashes like they are doing with COBB? The ability to download different Dynoflash ROMS depending on your mods at your discretion would be the shiznit...

I'm not sure what they're plans are, but the problem with that is fairly obvious:

Not everyone likes every tuner, some people hate Al, some people hate TurboTrix, some people hate John (just a made up tuner from... uh... Alabama), now some people dont think there's much of a difference, and I'm sure COBB would end up putting a little bit of finishing touches on the tunes, but right now I know that they're not messing around with anyone elses flash tunes (since those of us they were asking to come in for preliminary data analysis could not have a flash tune, due to copyright problems and things like that, just to be careful). I wouldn't be surprised if they used their own in-house Evo and a bunch of our cars to set-up the base of maps, and expand from there, I mean... they have a map for about every type of Subaru now with every sort of thing done to it (except maybe the new '06s).

I'd love one. Talking of ports, what's the port to the left of the ODB-II connector for?

That's not exactly true. The flash memory on the Subaru and EVO ecu's can be written and re-written hundreds, if not a thousand times. I have test ECUs that have 500+ reflashes and still going strong.

It's a connector used to get the factory ECU into "boot mode" so flashing can take place.

I see it this way either you go all out and buy a ecu or u get a flash and have a real tunner do the job why because next post you would be reading about is that people blowing there motors up becasue the over did it on the timeing and added to much fuel or less.

You just cant put this in the hands of people that think they know what there doing that would just be stupid i wouldnt do it i would pay someone to get it done the right way.

True. But wouldn't it be useful for a tuner to be able to ship out a programming device that already has the necessary map loaded into it? This would eliminate the need for the customer to ship the ECU to the tuner. It would also give the power to the customer when it comes to reverting back to stock or to uploading revised maps when the situation were to arise (ie, more mods).

Don't assume everybody is an idiot when it comes to tuning, just because they don't do it for a living. In my experience the majority of Evo owners are highly educated professionals. Also, if I want to blow my **** up experimenting with it - well it's my **** to blow up (I paid for it after all).

Having the hardware would allow vendors to sell updated maps with their parts (e.g. buy an intake, get a new map with it). I kind of like the idea.

COBB has two ways to get maps for the Accessport in Subarus:

First you can download a number of maps from their website for their staged upgrades and a number of other basic maps (ie valet mode, stock, antitheft).

Second, they have Protuner available to tuners which can build maps based on your mods that can then be saved to the accessport.

ummm... why would you want to protect idiots from themselves at the expense of intelligent people who would love to reprogram their ECUs? should AEM require anyone who buys one of their standalone systems be a certified tuner? i do not like your idea of limiting possibilities to everyone for the potential benefit of a few morons.

Exactly.. that is why hondata, and crome which is freeware was invented for honda. So many DIY people in the scene... And also some people have a prefered tuner that they have used on their other cars for yrs, but those tuners don't have access to ecutek flash or other proprietary tuning software because that is not what they specialize in, but are very knowledgable as far as tuning is concerned...

I would only consider buying something like this if it gave me the ability to tune the car myself.
I guess something where there is a libary of maps to choose from, is getting close (and it would only be a short time before someone wrote an editing feature)

Just hope it will work on JDM Evo7's when it is released. :S
