My Evo damaged by Mitsubishi!!!

Guys,

I bought my Evo about 4 months ago. I noticed the paint was rough an gritty to my fingers in areas as as I washed it. The surface just felt like it needed a clay bar or something. Finally I get a call from the dealer 4 months later from the sales manager telling that the car was damaged while in the manufactures possession and it had a letter with it that documented the damage which was supposedly a busted window or something small. The buyer was supposed to be shown this list BEFORE buying and would sign acknowlging the damage and get an additional 1K discount. I was never informed of such damage and signed no such thing. I have been meaning to call them and ask if it was damaged or something because I felt so many random rough spots. Good thing I procrastinated because they really would have looked bad if I reached them first.

Well I didn't think it was just a window and sure enough, I get the damage list and it has:

right front door glass broken
right front door dented
right rear door dented
right rear door molding
right qtr panel dented

I'm like no freakin way am I taking $1k for this. I didn't sign up for a bootleg vandalized and repainted car. I'm not so tight with my cash that I would have taken the car at $1k less. This takes the joy out of your fresh new car. So I believe that the car should either be bought back and I would go into a new one. At least they still have a car sold. But if they are nasty about it I'll loose all respect for Mitsubishi and push to get them to buy it back and I'll go get something else like a WRX or a Z.

Any of you ever been decieved or sold a bad car by a dealer?

I feel for you, but you have had the car for 4 months now. I think at this point I would take the car to a reputable body shop and have them check it out to make sure everything is straight.

If any imperfections are detected by the body shop, then start pushing for a new car or push until your satisfied.

I don't think this is just a mitsubish problem, I have heard of this before from other manufactures. Unfortunetely this is fairly common, even more so among US automakers. (or so I have heard)

i hope you got a copy of the letter, this will be an easy legal battle , your not informed and didnt get the formal manuf. /dealer agreement. they should make it right or you can push for more cash or another car, i would tell them to put you in a another car and you can pay some nominal rental fee for the 4 months , you get a new car for a few hundred dollars more. either way its you deal.

Dang ... I'd be livid!

If it was me, I'd be demanding a new car .. I'd probably even settle for a small upcharge to get into a 2004 model.

I agree, you need to fight this one. With written proof, you should have the slightest chance of NOT getting a new evo. Anyways, 1K would not be able to repair all that damage, so make them do it or just bring you a new car period.

Wow I would be pissed. I know for sure that the dealer MUST tell you that there was something repaired on the car before they sell it. And I believe by them not telling you that info voids the purchase contract (correct me if I'm wrong). Getting a new car shouldn't be that difficult.

DEFINITELY make them give u a new car or a FULL refund. U have the right to both! Tell them up front "I want you to replace my car with a brand new one." OR "I want a full refund in exchange for my car." If they say no, tell them ur lawyer will contact them. Go get a good lawyer and rape them. Get a new car and lifetime maintenance or sumthin for ur trouble.

I'm sorry for what happened to your EVO. Get your money back, if not settle this matter legally!

The day we went in to buy our Evo it was missing. We asked where it was and a couple sales people said it was in the body shop to repair a scratch. A couple days later we were able to pick it up. A couple of days after that we notice glass in the rear seat and hear glass in the rr door. I found out that it had been broken into at the dealer and both front seats taken.

Why couldn't the dealer have been honest and just told us that?? The sales manager bent over backwards to satisfy us after that. And those sales people disappeared shortly after we raised a stink about the honesty of the place.

DEMAND a new car. You paid for a new car, and any information about damages whould have been disclosed to you before you bought it.

Yeah, I think they've committed some major fraud here. A new car plus $5K in punative damages should do.

Sounds like overspray on the panels. When they fixed a bad scratch on mine, the dealership paint shop left overspray everywhere. I had them buff it out. To save trouble and time I would just demand some sum of cash back.

you need to take this to court man. If you have the list they said with the damages on the car. You should have a pretty good shot at winning the case and making them eat the deal or by them giving you a new car in exchange for your's. I would be mad as hell if it was mine. Find a good lawer and hope something good comes out of it for you. Keep us posted.
