headlight bobbing up and down on it's own
It must be some kind of defective part, switch...who knows. My 03 did it a few times on its own when I switched the lights on.
I also adjusted my beam level, but this should have nothing to do with the level adjustment motors in the lights themselves.
Could be like a bad diode in the switch or something.
Someone call Mitsu ask the service writer if he has seen this on other evos..

Sorry for bringing this old thread back, but I noticed this problem recently. It happens radomly. Is there any fix for this except replacing the whole assembly?
hmm... I always thought this was caused by my manual adjustment of the headlights past the factory settings. So you guys are having this issue and have never messed with the height adjustment gear behind the lights?

I have this problem, and I haven't tried the manual level setting. I think it is related to the motor controller, but can't figure out which one causes this.
My drivers side has done this, ever since I bought the car used.
I just took out my headlamps this past weekend, because I had to change bulbs/etc...
I notice that the plastic gears that adjust the lights up/down are shredded to hell, and I'm wondering if this is part of it as well. They're so shredded, that I can't even manually adjust the lights up/down anymore. Who the hell uses plastic gears, I mean c'mon!!!
My drivers side one moves up/down quite often...and now the aim of my drivers side headlight is MUCH lower than the right, which is even more frustrating. I'm going to take them out again soon in the future and look into this further...

As far as I know, most cars use plastic gears for adjusting headlamp position, but I am surprised to hear that the gears were shredded, and it still can change the position up and down!
It seems mine does the level adjustment correctly although it moves up and down several times. I didn't hear any gear grinding or weird noise except the motor noise, so I don't think any of those parts are broken.
It just bothers me that the motor keeps moving although I set the level to "0" (Highest), and didn't change the level setting. It will eventually reduces the life time of the motor.

Don't wanna start a new thread..
Have anyone tried unplugging the headlight adjustment motors? It's gotten to the point when it's so annoying i wanna take a baseball bat to my headlights
They don't react to the switch pretty much at all (i've tried different in cabin switches to make sure it wasn't the problem)
So they'd go up by themselves, then they'd go down so low i can see maybe 3 feet in front of the bumper....Damn...
At first i though i'd wait till they are at their highest and disconnect the in-cabin switch, did that but they go down anyway after a while and then stay down..
So does anybody know what the problem is? And how to unplug those motors maybe?
I also tried playing with the wire harnesses by the kicker panel, which are a culprit for many electrical problems, but that didn't have any effect.. I'm at a loss here...
I have an '03 by the way.
