So....

Why should there be a recall? Have I missed something huge this year?

Could you give some factual proof that Mitsubishi has made a engineering/installation/structual error regarding the OEM clutch in order to warrant a national recall?

Just because YOU think there should be a recall, why should the rest of us?

FWIW - I have a stock Evo, 25,000 miles, stock clutch no problems, driven 50-100 miles daily in heavy stop and go traffic. It has a slight shudder when very cold.

I EXPECT it to slip if and when I add more power than stock. I have no expectation as to overall life of the stock clutch. This my third, manual AWD vehicle.

there should be a recall becuase a large number of people in various evo forums have reported the clutch going out at very low mileage. this just does not seem right, and as i said before, i did NOT abuse my car in any way, and all i have is an apex'i exhaust. hardly a high horsepower item. 6k miles is too low for a clutch to go out normally, therefore it is something on mitsubishi's side. BMW will cover the 1st clutch, why won't mitsu? especially if it could be a manufacturers defect. even the service manager told me they just did a clutch on a car with 1700 miles on it. that is just not right. abuse is one thing, but for normal driving, it shouldnt happen until at least 50-60k miles

also, if and when your clutch DOES go out (if it does very early in the car's life) would'nt it be nice to not have to pay for it out of your own pocket? i'm a student working my *** off to drive my dream, and i sure as hell cant afford to pay 1500 every 6k miles.

also, i am not complaining about the clutch slipping. the clutch FAILED. pedal failed to come back up, didn't disengage so i ended up grinding gears, and when i pulled it back up at a light, it wouldn't go back down.

There are always some defects from the factory, but if Mitsu rejected your claim for that there must have been a reason, what did your dealer say? After owning a number of BMWs I can say their warranty system is great, but you pay for it. A good idea is to make 60% of the cost of a vehicle to just buy it, if you want no worries maintaining a sports car your income should be 100%-150% of the purchase price. Still a bummer about your clutch and warranty deny.

I have 12,000 without a hint of any problem. VMO, you said you expect 80,000 miles. I will say that's a little too ambitious. I put 80,000 on my 1986 Mustang GT before I needed a clutch. The 5.0 Mustang however had low end torque (sorely lacking in the 4.6) and a heavy flywheel. I do not expect to get 80,000 on my EVO mainly because the EVO's clutch and light flywheel requires a bit more feathering to get a smooth engagement from a stratup in slow to moderate traffic. I will be happy if I get to 60,000 befor the EVO needs a clutch. I will be ecstatic if I get over 70,000.

I'd be more concerned about losing your warranty for looking at an orange cone, then having a defective clutch.

Mitsubishi didn't make the stock clutch, Exedy/Daiken did. Also, there isn't a problem with the stock clutch, Daiken made it that way. The stock clutch acts as a fuse keeping you from breaking your transmission, because in a 2-wheel drive car with about 300 HP the tires would just spin, but in a 4-wheel drive car the tourqe has to be split to 4 wheels so you are more likely to break your transmission. And for all you people who are so uptight about it I have a news-flash for you: there is actually, believe it or not, such a thing as an "after-market clutch."

The funny thing about this and quite ironic is this compalint is going to a safety oriented organization. So if you're driving the car in an unsafe manner on public roads, ie launching, 0-60 in under 10s, and the clutch is failing do you think they are going to help you or repremand you for such unsafe public actions?

wel, to say it again, my clutch failed at 2/3 throttle merging on the freeway. I also have NEVER launched the car or taken it to the strip/autox meet. the occasional full throttle rolling starts is all i have done. surely the clutch can handle more than that, especially after 6k miles. and i also hardly see that as unsafe. It also is a safety hazard because the clutch went out on the freeway (mid-day moderate traffic) if i didnt know how to rev-match i would have been stuck on the freeway where there is no left emergency lane, so i would have had to coast across 3 lanes of traffic to get to the shoulder. i would call that a safety hazard

Got a recall notice from MMNA regarding the sticker label of my EVO yesterday. I think they gonna change the GVWR rating and GAWR label on the driver side door jamb.
