What are your opinions about gauge pods?

I'm trying to get a gauge (no pun intended) of which gauge pod I should get I'm really leaning toward a dashboard type as it seems to be the cheapest out there, but would require a lot of cutting. Which do you guys prefer?

I just got the 42 Draft Design Din mount and 3 VDO guages, I am very happy with it.

42 Draft Designs now has a set up just for Evo's: http://www.42draftdesigns.com/lancer.htm

If there was no such thing as stealing I would put them on the pillar.

I accidently put pillar... My vote was intended for steering column... I like to keep as much as possible about of view due to thieves of Htown.

I try not to put anything in my field of vision, to me driving and seeing are more important than looking at guages. Too much blockage when turning left around a corner with pillar guages.

Then you shouldn't have a wing on your car, cuz that blocks your rear view... Just like the wing, I'm sure I'll get used to bulky pillar quickly.

Well, it seems that most people put them on the pillar so that's where I'll put mine. I have a CF boost gauge and dual gauge pod on order from fasterthanthem motorsports. I was going to get an EGT gauge, but for now it's too expensive and I have other things to worry about, but later on I will get an EGT gauge and have it installed.

i have an Autometer 3 pillar gauge pod with 3 52mm Greddy gauges... you will have some problems with the tweeter cover, just make sure that the color matches before you glue the tweeter cover on!!

Where did you get this panel, did you have to paint it and cut out for the tweeter?

I have seen some nice setups using pillar mounting that are very compact. They do not seem like they block the drivers view of the road at all. If you mount on the pillar you can use your peripheral vision and to me that seems safer than looking down below the windshield area. An alternative would be to mount idiot lights on the pillar and the actual guages down below where the stock radio is.
