The Tough Guy

So yesterday I am stopped at a stoplight heading home from work. A 2003 super clean, blue WRX pulls up next to me. I'm checking out this guys car, was nicely done......black powder coated rims, exhaust, small drop, tinted windows....I thought it was a damn nice car. I look at the guy driving....who has 3 of his friends with him, and he was checking out my car. Then, he looks at me, gives me the thumbs down, and when the light turns green, he stpes on it and takes off.........My car only has 600 miles on it, (still under break-in) so I just pull away from the light and drive normally. A couple seconds later as I drive down the road I see that the WRX has slowed down in the right hand lane, immediately darts in behind me, and rides my a@@ for about half a mile, then moves to the right hand lane, down shifts, and flies by me.
People like this **** me off. My car was obviously new, and I have every intention of sticking to the break in procedure. I race with my friends for fun every once in a while, or with someone that has a cool attitude about it.
I consider myself to be a car enthusiast, and can appreciate any vehicle for certain aspects. No matter how fast you think your car is, there will always be someone thats faster than you.
I think it is very pathetic that me and my car were so threatening to this particular individual that he felt necessary to give me the thumbs down, then ride my a@@, then blow by me like hes racing me. What is the point of talking sh*t about someone elses ride? What possible good can come from it? Ive never talked sh*t about anyone elses ride......if anything I give them a thumbs up or a wave.
I guess I'm just pissed at the the mindset some people on the road have. I did not buy this car to impress people or win races, I bought it because I love cars, the thrill I get from driving it, and the technology behind it that interests me.
I would expect this kind of behavior from a high school kid, who's parents bought him the car, but this particular person appeared to be late 20s......I just dont get it.....I hope he feels better about himself.
I have had plenty of good experiences with the car. The other day I was filling up and a guy came over and said...."wow nice car".....we started to talk, and he asked if he could get a ride.....I took him for a quick ride, then he showed me his V6 Accord which he had modded....then he told me him and his buddies were going out for beers later.......Well, I guess some people just have no respect or courtesy.....these people are definitely not car enthusiasts. They're just out to prove something. Sorry to drag on.......needed to vent. Enjoy your cars.

Thumbs down

Well said, I see the same kind of thing all over Little Rock. Little rich kids from the Heights( rich, stuck up, hilly part of town). Bad attitudes and jealousy.

I've seen the same thing. To be honest the best responce I have ever gotten was from a guy w/ a Viper of all things.

About a week after I had my car, some kid in a focus w/ huge (wide) rear tires on the back (still trying to figure that one out) kept trying to race me, well I guess that is what you would call it. I would call it trying to hit my ****ing car .

I'm certain its not true to everyone but, in my area it seems the more rice, the more of a dip**** is driving ( maxwell house can for a tailpipe, complete w/ racing stickers everywhere, completely stock engine etc, maybe a $1,200 car w/ $5000 wheels and $500 worth of vinyl graphics.)

Break in or not, I would have dusted his ***, especially if he had 3 extra people.

He was just envious of your car. plain and simple.

I usually get hassled by older men in high end cars such as AMGs, M's, 911, not so much the compact import crowd.

Yep, I've had a couple of similar experiences. With ppl like that, I just look at them, raise an eyebrow and laugh my a$$ off right in their face as I continue to cruise along. Heck, even if your Evo was broken in, what would be the point of racing a WRX, esp. when it has three ppl in it? You KNOW you'd stomp it, so why waste the time and energy and wear-and-tear. However, the other day I was lined up behind a Camaro SS (no mufflers, loud as hell) ... I figured he'd take off pretty quick and so I stuck with him ... as soon as he saw me still behind him, he goes WOT ... I was ready and so I also went WOT ...well only for a second or two, then I had to let up so as not to rear-end him. What can I say? I LOVE MY CAR!!!!

what a joke... I'm still amazed by how many people (especially someone willing to race) don't know what an Evo is, especially with the big *** intercooler! As for people who try to race me, if I don't feel like it, I just look over and cover my mouth in a yawning manner...

These pukes are everywhere, just let it roll off, there are plenty of cool enthusiasts out there which are much more fun to remember. Like the 944 Turbo Guy who was surprised the slocus could take him on the inside, then keep him back their through the off ramp twisties and back on the highway. And we both gave thumbs up to each other for the good time!

For the *****, who are easily identified within 10 seconds of seeing them, tell em to bring it to the local road circuit any time, and the loser pays for the others fuel and tires.. Give em a business card too to let em know they can pay for your hobby whenever they are ready..
