Ok this has happened a few times to me over the past few months. I was running errands tonight and it was raining real hard. I took off my splash guard a few months ago. After driving through a deep puddle tonight I noticed my drivetrain sounded funny, I mean real bad like the transfer case was going to fall off, just sound like gears were runnin with no lubrication at all like it was a real strained mechanical sound kinda like a blender with to much stuff in it.. After a maybe 30-40 secs it was fine. This has happened 3 times and only when I have driven through deep water. What the heck is this? Should I be worried?

I know exactly what you're talking about, that's happened to me a couple of times on super rainy days too... unfortunately I have no idea what it is?

Same here.....only in the rain. I've heard it discussed before and never really found a solid answer. I have noticed what looks like rub marks on my heat shield where it looked like the drive shaft was rubbing, but I cant figure for the life of me why rain would cause the DS to go outta balance.

Anyone figure this out? I have the same noise only when it rains hard and the water is standing? Rubbing/grinding noise right under your feet...

I get this too with whissle sound. This was last night. I think it's just the transmission warming up?... ok that's a bad prediction.

same thing happened to me while I was driving home. I thought I had something stuck in my wheels but when I got out to look nothing was there. After I sped up to get on the highway it was gone.

it's freaking scarey... feels like the transmission is falling out... My exhaust seems to clear the driveshaft by a good margin, but I plan on putting it on ramps again tonight to check it out... It has to be something rubbing somewhere. I checked it out last time I had this noise and couldn't find a thing... I'm so irritated!

Damn...just had the same thing happen to me! I was coming down my street and drove through a big puddle...it wasn't deep, but a lot of water splashed up...my drivetrain made a funny "grinding" like sound, but the car runs okay...I'll have to see what happens...can water get in the clutch???

Update: Drove the car again...everything is fine...still don't know WTF that noise was...

Ahhh....I remember rain.

Why did you remove the splash guards under the car? That can't be helping your situation.

My car made that sound after it was sitting in the rain and I backed up. It sounded like a crunching noice but it was fine once it started rolling.

I live on a gravel road and have had the same crunching squeeking noise and it has been tiny rocks caught in between the pad a disc, i could see the little groove it was cutting. It has happened like 3 times. Just a thought
