Improving stock intake.

I'm looking to do some intake and exhaust mods. I most likely going for a helix 3in DP, but I'm wondering what the main restriction is with the stock intake. Would there be a noticeable increase w/ a new intake along w/ 3in dp?

I would want to stay away from just throwin on a cone filter since that would just suck in hot air from the engine bay. What can I do to free up the restricition of the stock intake without getting rid of the stock ram air?

well from what ive heard, the stock intake with a k&N drop in panel filter is the best way to go. i had aem and felt like i lose some low end torque (i dont think im the only one to feel that way), so i put the stock intake back on. now, while being quieter i feel like ive gained some of the low end torque back. im just waiting on some money so i can order my k&n.... anyone elses opinions?

what about cutting slots in the top part of the box... just a few... like 3-4 about 3 inches long and 1/4 inch wide... anyone think that would help???

I was thinking that....but wouldn't that suck in hot air from the engine bay? Someone on these forums recently cut the entire top off his airbox. I did find some 3 inch intake pipes that bolt up to the stock airbox, but I don't know what that would really do for performance.

Yeah that was the one I was talking about. Its an interesting idea. It would still suck in the air from the ram air. That apexi unit also looks decent, but it doesn't look like it will be able to suck in as much air.
