Is the RS already wired for a Stereo System?

Hey guys,

The no stereo thing in my EVO is getting old now so I'm looking at installing a nice stereo system. How hard would this be to install in a RS? Is it already wired for a stereo? I would be installing a CD Receiver and a pair of 6 3/4" Infinity Kappa speakers. Thanks for the help!

I know someone who just bought an EVO RS said everything is pre-wired. I think the speaker wires are ready to be connected to speakers but i'm not sure on that. I do know the wiring is ready to plug right into the factory radio. If you are installing an aftermarket radio, just stop by a car audio shop and pick up a wiring harness for your Mitsubishi.

Yes. The '04 RS is wired. Just buy a stereo and 4 x 6" speakers and install.

I thought the speakers are 6-1/2 " not 4x6

"Ahh Vtec, all the lag but none of the boost"

My 2 cents

Yes, they're 6.5". Or as a lot of people say, "sixes". I meant "get four 6.5" speakers". ... 4 x 6.

It's very easy to install a radio into the RS. Everything is prewired.

Do a search for stereo installation for this thread:
https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...stereo+install

If you have any problem, send me an IM or PM.

I still haven't been able to figure out how to remove the front door panels. So right now I have no front speakers.

But the head unit should be simple enough if you remove the knobs. The rear is also simple. Just go in the trunk and look up at the grill. 4 screws and it's out. You may have to drill for bolts to hold in the rear speakers, but I didn't and it holds just fine.

Good luck.

The front door panels pop out pretty easily for the speaker install. I can't remember where the screws are (i did it the day after i bought the car --- may), but i'll look as soon as I get a change. I believe they are in the handle.

Yea, I couldn't figure out how to pop the window handle out. I figured I wouldn't want to scratch it up.

So I'm waiting for someone to figure it out for me

Window Handle clip tool

You need a special tool to remove the clip in the window handle. There are a variety of them. I haven't worked on the evo handle so I can't tell you what to use.

It will be a flat forked tool, two legs with a gap in the center. Most likely standard on all mitsu.

On a mazda the clip is a wire shaped like the greek letter Omega. It snaps in a grove on the plastic door handle and the legs reach through two slots in the plastic. The metal splined shaft of the window mechanism has a groove in it. The legs of the clip engage that.

You will tear up things without the tool. The factory designed them to be an easy press fit onto the door. They don't care how hard it is to get them off. The tool presses on the ends of the clip they pop out of the grove and you can then easily pull the handle off.

The tools I have are for chevy stuff and dirt cheap, I bet you can find them for less than $5.00, auto parts stores may have them for sale or rent. Or swing by a body shop and ask them to pop the handles. You won't need any tools to re-install. You might want to note the position of the handles before you have them removed.

Best of Luck
