I would not agree that it's a economy car, it has so many welds in the subframe, etc., the driveline is pretty damn good, especially compared to a Lancer (sorry lancer guys), the engine is solid....the only econo aspect is the shell, and the shell has an aluminum hood on the RS... the interior is Recaro, it's got a good three grand in brakes, enkei rims....it's built on the econo philosophy, but almost every single car out there is built like that, even cadillac. Cheapest materials the market will tolerate, fastest assembly possible, etc. In fact, I would compare this car to a caddilac, in that it is built on a special line dedicated to this model, the EVO, and is considered a "flagship" car.

Sorry, I just get all worked up when it comes to Skyline Mitsubishi. They are terrible and will rip anyone off and have the face to play it off. Oh, and the finance manager will tell you to sign a no resition and turn around and also tell you "technically you have 3 days to return the car if your not happy". State laws says there is no such thing as a 3 day return policy.
Also when I see any threads dealing with bad dealerships, I normally put my two cents about Skyline Mitsubishi. Please pass on the word.

just my opinion from past experience, you might wanna check if they did any paint work in that area...reason being it looks like overspray, that they were too lazy to buff out, or didn't notice it at the time..... I had the same problem before on my white evo......
Wow what a strange turn of events....let me quote my origional service paperwork:
"Base coat mottled in two areas, needs refinished. MMNA inspection 7/13/04. Paint is within factory specs on in spection of lt qtr panel. Blemish in paint is so hard to spot or see under normal lighting conditions. Customer vehicle is far better off with factory paint than ref. paint"
Went back to the dealership tonight to show them how ****ty it looked in the dark (see pics), and they told me they talked to the district rep some more and now they will repaint it, they just wanted to make sure that I know that the finish they put on it will not be as good as the factory finish, that's why they didn't just want to do it.....WTF??? I'm gonna have them try and just buff it out, can't hurt if they are just going to repaint it anyway....

Nice RS
I was wondering, looks like a dealer repair, if the paint is not Base Coat / clear coat then they may have spotted in minor damage from shipping. You can't do that easily with a clear coat paint. Since the layers would be uneven and show contrast. If it is a dealer repair, that might explain why they are being so unreasonable.
The owners manual may say if the paint has a clear coat or not. My old Z28 has clear coat and it mentions it in the manual and explains how to care for it. The shopmanual will say for sure, since they will list methods for repair.
I think the guys have the right idea, if it is just low gloss, buffing may bring up the shine.
A good body shop should be able to tell you whats the best course of action.
Since you bought an RS, remember heavy paint would just slow it down.
Sports cars are the only disease, where you can enjoy driving the symptoms.

Should of bought your car at Huntingong Beach Mitsubishi (here in So. Calif.) My car has 420 whp and they will cover everything except for the engine/transmission (which I fully accept).
They know of my mod's, I'm proud of them..... they have taken care of all sorts of little issues I've had since I purchased the car over a year ago.
It depends on the dealership..... the owner Tom at H.B. Mitsu.... is an Evo guy.... I've had zero problems with claims after a year of ownership.

Not to be a dick but CMON dude, WTF. Are you so lazy as to not at least ask the dealership if they could try some paint/detailing products before they sand and resurface your new car? Don't you or a freind have some wax or swirl remover, it will seriously take 10 minutes.
For anyone in this thread who hates particular dealerships, etc... remember... a dealership will only treat you as ****ty as you let them. Know your rights. Know who to talk to. Know how to talk to these people in a professional and firm manner. You will get everything within reason you need or want.
There is NO finish like the factory paint, so if there is any chance you can keep it, I would. You also may want to have an independent body shop look at it to see if they have a better solution than the dealer is coming up with. It did look like some possible overspray which may be able to be color-sanded out. They also make products that are safe for clear-coated paints to polish out scratches, etc. You may want to look into those...
Your last resort should be having it repainted. IMHO
Good luck.
