General Happiness/Unhappiness with Evo 8

I am in the process of deciding whether I should buy an Evo 8 or Impreza STi. I'm not really concerned about which car can outperform the other, instead I am looking for some quality opinions on the cars reliability and peoples experiences with Mitsubishi as a company.

The few people I know who own Mitsu's have done nothing but warn me about the company and reliability issues.

All opinions would be helpful.

Thanks

Had my car 7 months and put 7500 miles on it with no problems. Really my only complaint is the paint chips easily, but I heard it is an issue for Subaru also.

Tha car put a smile on my face everytime I drive it.

I'm happy with my cruise control. That boost spooling sound is always pleasant.

I think the doors close better than BMW, if you ask me. Overall fit of the product is AUDI quality.

I can't rev my engine from the engine bay tho, since the cable is hot all the time.

I have to fill the IC sprayer every week, but that's not too bad.

i think overall fits good with the car but mitsu warranty's suppose to be horrible. I haven't experienced it yet. I just talk to the parts people.

I've been putting 2,600 miles a month on mine. No problems here.

After having driveability issues with my Evo Mitsu. bought it back and I got another one. It wasn't completly painless and took about 3 months to go through but, atleast they did the right thing. I do believe stories like mine are few and far between with Mitsubishi however. I think alot of it depends on the dealership you use. My dealerships service department is good. Their work is OK but, the service manager is a good guy who goes out of his way to keep me happy. So I guess what I'm saying is get to know the people at the dealerships your are thinking about purchasing from and base some of your decision on how you feel about them. It would be good to talk to people who have bought cars from them before.

Holy crap. AWD lives!

I think one of the biggest factors in happiness with the car is your local dealers - how are the local Suby and Mitsu dealers? For me, the local Suby dealer is much better than the local Mitsu dealer. Something you may want to investigate with locals.

Just got my evo so I can't really comment on the evo itself yet...however, I have been dealing with Mitsu since early 99 and have never had issues with the dealer, even when half of my eclipse was aftermarket. Guys here are real friendly...not like some of the backstabbing dealers out there (this includes any brand of dealership). Find a dealer you can trust, get to know the parts and service managers, and you should have no trouble with any car you get.

Ive had mine for 19k, and almost a year. No problems whatsoever, other than normal wear and tear (i.e. brakes).

Im actually surprised that i went this long (essentially two years worth of driving) without breaking anything. But ill knock on wood and keep my fingers crossed.

I can wait every single day to get in the EVO and drive.

i've had mine almost a year put 13,800 miles on it and no problems at all. you know imho if you spend the money for quality mods. you generally wont have any issues, due to the fact the are better and more reserched than what the car comes with stock.

8500 miles, and pretty much modded from day one. Clutch holding well, tires holding up great, and no warped rotors, yet. I'm going to dynomat the doors cuz the speakers rattle. The paint chips/scratches easily if you do not pay attention. Other than that, its been a lot more fun to drive than my previous turbo'd cars, the 944 and the Supra TT.

I've had my car for over a year and have about 23K on it. I've modded the car (Vishnu Stage 1+ so far for power, coilovers, plus some other stuff) and take it to the track (road courses) as often as I can manage. I keep on top of all my maintenance, and started regularly changing the tranny fluid from the beginning. I'm also planning to continue to change my diff fluids every 14K.

The local District Manager called me personally one afternoon to tell my warranty was toast. I'm OK with that, I bought the car to track and mod, and I'm willing to pay if I break it.

The car has been solid and completely reliable. It's been started and driven in temps from -20 F to +100 F. I've thashed for entire days at different race tracks seeing speeds approacing 150, and the driveline just takes it and asks for more. I'm impressed; I haven't broken anything yet. I do take care of the car, though. No slamming the gears too hard or fast, and no big clutch drops. I'm still on the original clutch, too.

Every time I walk up to the car, I smile. Getting in and turning the key is great, and driving the car is fantastic. I still want to get in the car and just drive, even if I don't need to go anywhere. The car is just fun.

If you mod, do your homework and buy quality. Don't be afraid to give up a bit of performance (and some extra cash) for parts that work right and won't eat up your car. It's hard to enjoy if it's always broken.

100 miles minimum a day & i love it more every time i drive it.

unhappiness:
no gripes about mine other than people trying to stop me in traffic to talk about the car (sometimes almost causing accidents) & when i notice the random kids gathered around checking it out when i go out on break at work (paranoid i guess).

happiness:
everything else

I love how big the interior is also. It's really a good size for something that goes this fast.

This car completely reminds me of that lotus 4 door sedan from the 80's.

Lotus Carlton. I love that t car.
