haven't tracked Evo yet but here's what I think after plenty of comparison back to back drives:

Evo PROs:

lighter
great steering feel
excellent brakes
cheap price

Evo CONs:

lack of power down low
a lot slower at higher speeds
unless I'm a pro driver I lose to SMG

Actually I'm selling my Evo as I am not driving it as much as I thought. We bought an SUV for my coming baby. One sports car stays and me chose M3 :-( no flames please but I like it a lot better. But Evo was fun and is great for the money.

Stock Evo will smoke a e46 m3. Better brakes, handlinig, 3 lsd's, - there's absolutely no comparison when autocrossing.

Only an idiot will use the words "SMOKE" and "ABSOLUTELY NO COMPARISON" when comparing STOCK Evo and STOCK M3, especially in autocross.

on 18's, m3 have different front and rear tire sizes.

If there is a good driver, it would be very close between stock evo8 vs M3 non SMG.

SMG shifts faster and gives the driver an edge since they don't have to use the clutch.

RWD helps on the track too, since you could control better with throttling and braking. The torque distributing system on M3 wont hurt either, it's like AYC on M3.

But RS is so much better track car then M3, since it's practically made for track. I think it would be close.

If the RS had the 6 speed gear box, i think M3 smg would get spanked.

Track time for RS is much faster than M3. Refer to Top gear test.

yep, my exact sentiments... it would be close and driver dependent.. not "SMOKED" or "ABSOLUTELY NO COMPARISON".

And this is stock Evo, not the RS or MR version.

DipShi7-

Do I know you?

1st: You drive an automatic BMW. I know, it's not auto, it's SMG - whatever,.. if that makes you feel better. Better yet, Ego check, you ONLY drive a M3 - who gives a flying flip - you don't have "emblem-itis" do you?
FOr less cabbage I can build a GS300 w/ 2JZ-GTE swap making 600-700 wheel horse power. YOu catch my drift?
2nd: Have you ever autocrossed a AWD car with "front", center, rear LSD's? I'll answer for you - NO!
3rd: http://auto.joins.com/upboard/pds/pd..._JDMSports.asf
Be patient with the DL, it's worth the wait.
4th: You're a Dork and I'm done wasting my time.

what year gs300? 2jz GE and GTE(supra engine) isn't the same...

I think we're talking about driving in track. I don't think Gs300 or Supra is a good track car with that much horsepower... Maybe a drift car. Everyone knows that Supra don't handle well.

Why are you so angry? M3 SMG shifts faster than any manual shifter out there... it's a good car. I would drive that if I had the money to buy one. $50K+ is a lot of money for track racing tho.

I don't know why people hate M3's so much. There are few drivers out there who gets m3 just for the status symbol, but this guy is obviously tracking with his, so he's not one of those snobby old people or daddy's boy.

I like the M3. It's technically proficient and built to last. I mean, I still see people driving the E36 and generation before that one.

Come on guys.....he comes in here posting an unbaised opinion as best he can and as soon as you guys find out he is selling the EVO, you jump on his case. Look, there are people out there that don't have the same preference as us. Live with it. He chose the M3. The M is a hell of a car and it will suit his needs perfectly. You don't have to go and post all this bull**** about how the EVO is such a better track car. Why not act like a true enthusiest and congradulate him on owning 2 badass track cars and wish him luck with his M.
