BLiu...

You make a valid point about most owners not coming to the board until they have problems. I would take it one step further and say most owners don't even know about EVOM, which is unfourtunate since the knowledge base here is beyond compare. I can't tell you how comforting it is to know that my car is not the only one with the PO300 problem. This is the internet at it's best IMO. But of course this also begs the question of how many more EVO owners are out there with problems and don't know even to come here.

way2fast...

The clutch/TC/ and the rest of the drivetrain should be able to hold up...PERIOD. To say they put a weak clutch in to protect the rest of the drivetrain is rediculous, they put a cheap *** clutch in to save money, and now alot of us have had to pay for it. Just do a search on "clutch", I am not alone in this situation.

AND finally a BIG FYI...I NEVER dragged the car, NEVER. I know how to drive, I know how to drive fast, I know the difference between a good 2 (rear and front drive) wheel drive launch and a good awd launch, and my clutch should not have gone out that early.

I honest to god am happy you guys have had good luck with your cars, but if you spend a half hour and really look through EVOM you can't, if you are being honest, say that EVO's don't have alot of problems as a whole.

I will not be visiting this thread again, which I am sure you guys will be glad of. It's just too frustrating. Here's looking foward to other subjects. Thanks for hearing me out.

yeah i'm sure nobody here meant anything personal against you or any against any one else with problems and I'm sure if my clutch goes out soon I'll feel the same way as you. Its just that this site is totally overrun with users that ONLY come on this board to complain and nothing else! I'm also sure that not EVERYONE w/ a premature failling clutch were "good" to their clutch before it went out! thanks for answering w/ a nice attitude which is better than I can say for many people on this board....

Wow, Chris and Jack have said it all. I've replaced nothing but tires at over 26k... and still smile every day as I drive it. Hell, I have hardly listened to the radio in months.

Ask Mitsuorder how I break... OE pads made it to 25.5k... OE rotors are now being clamped by DS2500s front and rear at minimum thickness with a rather large "lip" where the OE pads wore them down... never so much as a shimmy out of them. I always use a torque wrench on the lugs, stab break (like I'm coming to the end of the back stretch), and never sit holding the break after any moderate to heavy stops. Someday I will replace them. I must be doing something right.

dang dude do you ever turn a corner?? how do you get tires to last that long... My clutch is fine at 13k miles but my tires are almost totally bald and I haven't been driving that hard. I haven't replaced anything at all on my car besides the stereo system.. but I'll be getting tires either this weekend or next. Im thinking Toyo Proxy 4's should still handle good and get a little better life than the stock yokahama any opinions? (I can't afford a new set of tires every 10k miles)

Stock to stock, an S2000 isn't as fast or quick as an EVO to about 100 MPH, but it certainly handles much better. On a tight track like SOW, an EVO isn't necessarily lapping it faster...

I know how to drive, been driving for over 30 years, 80% or more of that time was on vehicles with a manual tranny (includes some early dirt bike time too) and I absoulutely didn't/don't abuse the EVO. Do I drive aggressively, hell ya, that's why I didn't buy a Camry or Accord.

With that being said, my clutch started slipping at 2k miles (babied it then replaced it at 9k), my brakes shudder (rotors/pads soon at 20K), I had the front end clunk but it went away (go figure), I have the PO300 problem (how was that my fault???) and my driver seat squeaks, I could go on about other general quality issues too, but I think/hope you get the point.

Granted most people post on EVOM because at a minimum they have a question, and at max they have a true problem they need help with. This makes it look like they are whining, when in fact they just need an answer or help. IMO the EVO has more problems than it should for a modern asian-built car. As far as covering costs because it's high performance car, that's crap. Trucks are built to tow, and they can without replacing a clutch every 10k miles.

The EVO is underbuilt and underdesigned for it's advertised purpose. They did this to cut costs, to even have a chance at selling the car to the younger market.

Don't get me wrong, the car performs like no other for the price, but some of us have not been as lucky as this thread starter and some others in this thread.

I wish you continued luck with all of your EVO's, because in mine and many others experiences and opinions you are gonna need it.
Maybe Chris or Malibu should have said "In General"?

The "Stock for now Evo" is a rare case of an EVO having aLL of the problems that have been seen on these boards..

We all know about the seat, the front end clunk, etc. But I am getting SICK of people telling me that the brakes are warping because of the way I drive or brake..

Give ME a brake..

I can kind of see how those that are getting lambasted for their "poor shifting skills" as the reasoning behind the failed clutches would get REALLY ANNOYING.

But really, is the only one that confirm what the hell is wrong with these items and we all know that won't happen..SO:

We blame the owners and their POOR DRIVING SKILLS..

Newfound Love

I bought my Evo last year in April. I reached a whole new level of appreciation after taking two road trips in two weeks. I drove from Chicago to St. Louis last week and I drove Chicago to Mackinaw City this week. The Evo is great on the highway and it is solid at high speeds. I made the Mackinaw trip in less than seven hours. It would have taken closer to 8 hours had I been driving my wife's SUV.

St. Louis was me and three friends. Mackinaw City was just me and my wife. Take a road trip in your Evo. The sooner the better!

ummm, mine squeaked too, but I noticed that it would do that at a certain angle...so move the backrest more upright just a bit and it should go away.
