DIY Oil Change Questions

Hey guys I've decided to start changing my own oil. I plan on documenting all my changes and keeping reciepts for the oil just in case.

The guys at the dealership are very nice to me but the quickest I've got out there is 1.5 hours. I make an appointment but they still don't keep the oil on hand. I usually see the Napa truck pull up after about 30-45 mins of waiting. Not to mention the 61.00 price tag.

I have a question about the "chassis lube". I was under the assumption that all newer cars had sealed bearings and wouldn't require this. If my EVO needs this every oil change could someone point me in the direction of some reading material.

Also if someone knows where I could buy a box of mitsu oil filters to save a few bucks it would be helpful.

happy boosting!

most likely they aren't lubing anytihng... just checking it at most, you can get filters from mitsubishiparts.net at a reasonable price.

Anyone have a part # for the EVO oil filter? That site sucks if you're trying to find something and don't know the part #.

yeah i keep a binder documenting EVERYTHING that I do to my car including mods, oil changes, any fluid changes, and all corresponding receipts... always a good idea in case you have to look back in a couple years

ok duh.. oil filter part # was on my oil change invoice.. updated first post with it as well. It's 2 dollars cheaper on mistuparts but I'm not sure about shipping yet.

MZ690116

edit: Damn shipping is 7.95.. I'd have to order like at least 10 to be saving any money at all

Anyone know a site with cheaper shipping?

just buy Purolator PureOne filters at your local Autozone or Advance Auto Parts.

it's a better filter and around $4.50 IIRC

Diy

Just did my first DIY Oil Change today. Bought the filter at the nearby dealer for $5.75 and he gave me a couple of Oil Plug washers free. Bought the 5 gallon Mobil 1 at Walmart for $20. Changing my baby's oil, because no one cares for my baby like I do, Priceless.

On my last car (Celica GTS) I had some goon mechanic get in my car with a screw driver in his back pocket and rip my seat. Never again!

You warranty can not and will not be voided if you use a non-mitsu oil filter. It's just like any other aftermarket part. It can only void a portion of your warranty *IF* it is directly responsible for a problem. Just don't use cheap-*** oil filters (like Fram). Use Purolator or Mobil 1 filters.

Ok after a good bit of reading on the forums I'm confused.

Mitsu filters

I've read the MZ### filter is crap (smaller) and the MD35600 is the one to use. Does anyone know a good site to order these from? and do they include a crush washer for the drain plug?

Purolator

I'm confused on which one of these is the RIGHT one! The following #'s are the one's I've found so far.. L14459 PL14459 PL14610

These forums are great but information gets scattered all over the place.. with something this important I don't want to get the wrong filter.. plus I plan on buying a box of these.

Thanks guys!

Ok after a little more reading it seems the MZ### filter replaced the older MD35600! I also read the newer filter is smaller than the old one bah. Does anyone know the exact model of purolator filter? and do you know if the purolator is bigger than the "new" MZ mitsu filter?

Also found the crush washer for the drain plug (assuming the part # didn't change like the filter)

Crush Washer: MD050317

Does anyone know what vendor I might be able to get these washers from? Maybe they would have the 'older' MD## filters as well..

huhu! Thats a LOT of oil!

The dealership should be able to get you a handful of those crush washers for free, or for very cheap. Just call them, and tell them you bought some filters a lil while back and you didn't get any washers.

SC~

5 gallons? Maybe 5 quarts..

Well I had planned on ordering a bunch of the older MD filters so I wanted to get the crush washers at the same place.. I found some place online just waiting for them to get back with me.
