Just got my Evo last night and I love it

I traded in my 2002 WRX (which I hated) for a brand new silver Evo last night. I managed to afford the sun/sound/leather package and I have to say, I like this car a lot.

I've owned many cars in my life, early on I had a 85 Starion (or Dodge Conquest for those of you unfamiliar with the old Mitsu line) a 5.0 Mustang, a 66 fasback mustang bracket car with a stroker motor, two 3rd gen RX7's, two vettes (most recently a 2002 Z06) and the afore mentioned WRX which I hated. I have to say, the Evo is probably going to be my favorite once I get over having to sell the Z06. I can't wait to start the upgrade path and get to know some other Evo owners out there.

Thanks,
Sam

why did you hate the WRX??? I enjoyed mine while I had it. It might not be an EVO but it's certainly in the ballpark.

you had 2 3rd gen Rx7's?? oh dear lord.. please tell me you still have one... i love rx7's.... but if not.. you did acquire an amazing vehicle... enjoy it while it lasts... ( until you no longer are new to the boost of the evo and require more performance out of it and need mods... like the current situation i am in)... but the turns NEVER get old... have fun man

Congrats and welcome to the Evo family! I, too, went from a Vette to the Evo...you're gonna love the Evo, especially once you start modding...the 4G63 is a tuner's dream...

I had to get rid of the Z06 due to the fact that I moved from San Jose, CA here to Redmond, WA into a house that's about a 1/4 mile off a paved road. In other words, the hard packed dirt road leading to my house would have torn the front off the vette. I really do miss the HUD......

I no longer own any RX7's, they were very fun cars but also somewhat fragile and they had limitations on the stock turbos. I did love the handling and looks of my rex, but when I sold it (with a new motor, don't ask) I got a 96 LT4 vette that was night and day vs. the rex in the torque dept. I then prodeeded to mod the **** out of it too, then got the Z06.

I figured when I had to unload the Z06 I'd get something with decent handling, a modable engine, all wheel drive, and ground clearance. To be honest, the Evo was not even on my radar, I knew nothing about the car.....guess I spent too long with the V8's and forgot about the SCC market. I chose the WRX cuz I thought it was the only game in town, but after owning it since February I began to hate it. The thing is so underpowered it's sickening, opening and closing the doors has a very cheap feel to it, and the upgrade path (from my research) isn't as rewarding in the "bang for the buck" factor as it is with the Evo. Kinda like the days of 3rd gen RX7's vs. BPU Supra's.

There you have it, sorry for rambling but I like talking about cars, and I look forward to sharing what I learn with others as my life with this car progresses. I've been a member of the forums for every type of car I've owned (although in the early days it was just email lists) and found them to be very useful. I've also bought and sold tens of thousands of dollars (whole cars = tens of thousands) with other forum members and never once been burned or had an unhappy buyer.

I'm sure you'll be happy with the Evo. 1/4 mile of dirt road? ... I'm envious

Welcome, I also just sold a RWD monster because I live in the Northwest and couldn't deal with the car in this climate. (edit: I moved here from the Bay Area also...) It was a 418rwhp Twin-Turbo Z. I didn't miss the car until I drove my wife's WRX on the highway. Damn I miss the Z's highway power, I can live without the insane maintenance or cost of mods though. I'll be hoping to pick up an Evo within the next month or two.

The Evo community in the Northwest seems to be a little thin compared to the WRXs everywhere. Have you heard of PDXEVO? I'm in Beaverton, OR myself... not too far a drive to the Seattle area.

Funny you should mention Vishnu cuz guess where I know Shiv Pathak from....you guessed it, he's a former RX7 guy. He used to own the Sport Compact Car RX7 project car and as I came from the bay area, and he's in the bay area, I know of him and his abilities. Now, being an old married fart (I'm 31) I can't start modding right away, I have to make wife believe that I've sold some of my old parts to pay for the new ones....but I will mod at some point, I can't help myself.

I see more WRX's in a day than I can count, I don't get it, are Subbie's the official car of the Northwest? In CA (or the bay area at least) they had another connotation entirely, especially in Santa Cruz. I have seen maybe 4 Evo's since I've been here.
