Red Line 75W90
I understand that it works, and maybe it is a patch for a faulty design. The first thing that the manufacture changes when thay are having problems is the lubricants. In my case I need to comply with my warranty requirements. If a have problems in the future mitsubishi will be asking me the same questions. Unless I can produce a letter from Pennzoil/BG stating it is approved I will not use it. Chevron will inspect and write up a letter to determing if their product caused a failure. This is a legal matter not a what feels good in your trans matter. If my trans grinds Mitsubishi should replace under warranty (if I use approved fluids)
There have been a number of people stating that their Mitsu dealer recommended syncromesh in their Evo. They even stock it. IIRC, there's even a TSB on some DSMs to use syncromesh for those that are experiencing shifing issues, etc.
I've never tried BGII so I can't say, but that's what i've read here on this board. You may want to try a search on the subject. Something about it being too good and too slippery. I do recall that when they switched to BGI they experienced much better performance from it.
Do you have any technical data for the Pennzoil Synchromesh? The website doesn't appear to show the oil viscosity.
*EDIT* Nevermind, I just found the info in one of the above posts.

BG11 is synthetic BG 1 clings better. I would like to get ahold of that tsb I think Mitsu is using it for a patch. I don even think BG 1 is being produced anymore. according to their rep. so you are going to have to find something else.
I do not have any grinding problems but the RS has a different tranny. I would think that 04 model transmissions would have been corrected by the factory by not and mitsu will not admit if there even was a problem.

BGI is still available but hard to find. RRE stocks them. http://www.roadraceengineering.com/eclfluids.htm
Call penzoil they will tell you to use thier Synthetic Gear 75W-90 GL-4 and not to use the synchromesh. 1-800-990-9811 they will even explain why.
This is the last time I get involved with these pointless discussions.

If you think your Mistubishi dealer cares about Car you are kidding yourself they only care about getting you thru the warranty. I could not find a Mitsu Dealer in my ares that even put GL-4 in the tranny they are all using bulk GL-5. to save money. they also try to BS you into thinking that GL-5 superseeds GL-4. I think that every one that has been denied warranty work should go back and find out what they put in before the transfer case exploded.

hmm.... don't know how the subject is going to transfer case oil and dealerships, but in any case i'm not trying to convince anyone to use syncromesh or BG. I'm just stating what I went through, my experiences and what has worked best for me. I agree GL-5 doesn't belong in the gear box and everyone should do their research before using anything other than what the factory recommendations are.

Both the '03, '04 GSR's and '04 RS's use the W5M51-2-X5BC trans.
Part numbers differ depending on the build date, as the updated 5th gear hub is std. for newer models.
12/1/02 - 12/3/03 = PN# MN132454
1/1/04 - 7/3/04+ = PN# MN168658 (this includes the RS)

I tried to find the Penzoil 75W-90 GL-4 and no one stocks it in my area. I even phoned the Dist and got a recording they did not call back. I did read that it is very pricy if you find it $22.00 a qt. that it why I got the Nissan MTF and will be on the phone with Nissan Monday to find out the specs. It says 75W-85 think that it is Castrol 99% sure.
On the back it says "Use where Nissan 75W-85 Manual Transmission Fluids are required in Nissan, Infiniti, and other make vehicles.
Fact Nissan requires GL-4 for the manual Trannies.
I am the only one to try Nissan oil in my Mitsu, But think this may be the same as Mitsu re-labled. being 75W-85 castrol is the only one making that weight and if this is true it is a very good full-Synthetic. used in G35 6-speeds
Paid $10.00 qt retail is $18.00 qt
