Car will not go into gear after sitting for a while?

I noticed that my car does go into any gear when it has been sitting for a couple of hours. I have to turn the car off then put it into gear and then it will be fine for the whole day. What causes this to happen? Also i am going to change the transmission fluid this weekend, and i am deciding which redline oil to use. Any recommendations?

thanks

Your tranny is cold. Let the oil heat up a little and then you'll be fine. NO need to change the fliud IMO.

You might want to get the clutch checked.

My mechanic mentioned something about the tension/spring in the clutch which I didn't quite understand.

You don't have to turn the car off. Just return the shifter to neutral, let the clutch out, put the clutch back in, and put the shifter in gear. It just needs a "reset" every now and then. The shifter doesn't always just fall into gear. I have never had a manual transmission that wasn't exactly the same.
