concern with 2005 evo lancer prices
It appears to me that most of you are concerned with the MSRP of the lancer EVO MR... but few of you are even concerned with the 2005 evolution or RS's MSRP...
the 2003's base model EVO VIII MSRP was $28,XXX, and the MSRP for the base model 2004 became $29,999, that was given the fact that there were no major mechanical changes between these 2 year's EVO, with the exception of the cabin filter which is not even $100. I am concerned with the 2005 base model's MSRP because of the new technologies they are throwing into all 2005 models (Not that I will buy a '05 i just got my '04 3 months ago and therefore this is for dicussion purpose only). I remember reading that the HID's are no more a standard item on base model 2005 EVOs... hopefully that price difference in headlights go to the new differentials on the 05's... the +5hp and +13lbs torque should not be price related, since it is acheived by an increase of boost only... I think the MSRP of the MR is directly related to the MSRP of the base model EVO....
Here is my take... I believe that the MSRP for the base model 2005 EVOs will once again be going up a bit... this time eclipsing the $29,999 mark. With that said, let's look at what "extra" is on the MR that mitsubishi could try to rip us off on.... HID's over regular model? definitely... 6 speed transmission? u bet... BBS rims over enkei's? sounds valid... vortex generator? surely... aluminum roof? hell yes... the new bilstein suspension? oh my... and the misc comestic improvments on the interior cabin? its gonna be an arm and a leg... okay so lets go back to the MSRP of the base model... let's just say it goes up by only $500 (im assuming it could be more) which puts the base MSRP at $30,500.. do you guys really think mitsubishi will give away all those aforementioned goodies for only $4500 more?
no matter what the final price will be... here is my take... the MR is good for basically one thing... the fact that its a special model and therefore the higher resale value in the future...
In a straight performance point of view... the weight reduction from an MR compared to a base model comes in 2 forms... the lighter BBS alloys and the aluminum roof... but then again the 2005 base EVO do not have HIDS nor the vortex generator... Also, in most forms of racing.. whether it is autocrossing or drag, the 6th gear is never used.. On paper, it is not showing how the MR has tremendous advantage on top speed neither... not to mention the fuel economy is not improved
I guess my final point is... sure... add the same parts/mods to a base model, an MR, and an RS (2005 model that is) the RS will come out ahead in most cases (being the lightest) with the MR following closely behind it, and the base model will be the slowest of the 3.... but my point is... is the extra $5000 (which is in doubt ... could be a lot more... as discussed in my previous argument) difference in initial cost, (regardless of dealership markups) worth the money? seems to me that $30,000 for a base model, $5000 in mods, makes a lot more sense for those who are all after performance.... but if one wants an exclusive, one of a kind, limited production vehicle... then i'd still say "hey its your money.. your choice"...
