MR Vortex Generator

I went to mitsu today and they have the Vortex Generator in their parts catalog. It is part number MZ380295EX and lists for $229.99, but with my 20% discount (I bought the car there) it was $172.49. Now if I could just finda part number for the Ralliart Mudflaps they may be cheaper thru the dealer than online...lol

That's way cheaper than the vendors here sell it for. I don't like it too much. It's too busy looking like a bunch of small antennas.

the reason why the dealers around here charge so much for the vortex generators because of the currency exchange plus the cost of shipping from japan. since we have the MR in the U.S. any mitsu dealer can get a hold of them for less.

Thanks for the info. That is the price I would like to pay for the vortex generator. If you can order one for me, I'll appreciate all the help.
Thanks,
Noel

a vortex generator is an aerodynamic piece consisting of shark fin (dorsal) type things along the strip of a leading end of a wing (a car kinda has a wing shape to it). the vortex generator makes vortexes on the leading end of the wing towards the trailing edge of the wing. this causes the boundary layer between the air and the moving object to be "sucked" towards the object. aerodynamically speaking, the closer the boundary layer is to the object the better.

the idea is the that the area behind the roof of the car (rear wind shield etc) has a very sharp drop off. this drop off causes the air traveling over the roof to break off and "stall" the aerodynamics of the car (boundary layer is no longer intact). this type of stalling creates drag which decreases aerodynamic efficiency. making the vortexes on the rear end of the roof will suck the air downward making a better overall boundary layer retention and better overall aerodynamic efficiency.

i don't know how well it works though... usually fins that size are used on air plane wings that are maybe a tenth of the height of the the evo or even the distance between the roof and the trunk lid. it does help those kinds of planes (particularly old school red baron stunt type planes) with their stalling so in theory it should at least help a little bit. though this is much better tried and applied in the field of air planes.

First hand experience.. it works. Noticeable but not as dramatic as changing your suspension.
