The front helical LSD in the RS/MR adds 27.7lbs!?

In the latest Road & Track, they test the new MR. What I found fascinating was the following paragraph taken from page 47:

"To help compensate for the additional weight of the limited-slip front differential, weight has been trimmed in several critical areas: Each of the BBS wheels is 2.8 lb. ligher than stock, the side-impact door beams are now aluminum (saving 7.7 lb.) and the roof is also aluminum, shaving a further 8.8 lb. This adds up to a 27.7-lb. reduction, which cancels out the extra weight of the front LSD."

How on earth can a LSD weight 27.7lbs more than an open differential? I've torn apart transmissions before on FWD cars and trust me, the difference between a LSD and open diff isn't more than a couple pounds tops! How can it be any different in an AWD car? A limited slip is a limited slip!

I'm thinking that they screwed up and meant to say that the new ACD (Active Center Differential which I believe is electronic?) is what adds the the 27.7lbs; not the helical LSD...

On a sidenote, I'm wondering how much work it would be to swap in the lighter aluminum side-impact beams.for the 7.7lb reduction?

I think they meant the added weight of the ACD and it's control system.
