"Gentleman's Evolution" ??

ok, well, ive been hearing about this so-called "gentleman's evo" for guys who dont want to shift all the time and dont want the big wing and stuff... . an automatic evolution? that would suck . when i was ordering my evo 3 months ago, they asked me " manual or auto?" ummm, are you serious? manual, with recarro package.
sorry, in my view, triptronic or no triptronic, its still an automatic. the only time you should have a turbo with an auto is when your making 800whp in a supra. that about the only time youl hook that up.
has anyone heard of this gentleman's evo? is it true? your thoughts?

ok you are entitled to your own opinions, but don't go around bashing those "pussy" guys who want an automatic version. Some people just want a fun car to drive w/o the constant hassle of shifting in traffic, that's where the auto comes in.

Yes there is a gentleman's evo, it's called the GT-A.

WOW! What a limited view of the things. Boy, you could do a lot of help to your self if you would try to see further of your own nose. There are other points of views and if you don't want to see them, you have a big problem young man!

So true. I didn't know it was THAT wrong to have an automatic car.

If you do...LEARN TO DRIVE ON A DIFFERENT CAR.

The faster you're going the most costly (in terms of parts AND lives) mistakes could become. Buy a junker or learn on a friend's car. Sorry to take this off track, but things like that scare me. :crap:

Handshaker only.

5MT is the only tranny code that we've seen so far.

i just dont know how people don't know how to drive manual... it should be require in driver's ed or at the DMV before the test.

Since auto's came out, most people rather drive it because it is much easier. Also, think about all those people trying to drive sticks... it's bad enough we got soccer mom's on cellphones... what's next, soccer mom's trying to drive a stick talking on the cellphone. That would be crazy.

But I do agree, learning manual is something I feel that is very necessary. Think if you were in an emergency when YOU were the only one who could drive and that the only car you can use is a STICK.

its not wrong to have an automatic car. i have an automatic Corolla that i have been driving, but i also drive an Integra 5-speed pushing a ****load of hp. but i see RT Turbo is saying. why should u order an Evo with auto? there is no point. its what the car is all about........you having the control. if u cant drive stick then dont buy the car. go with the little lancer OZ or whatever. the Evo is for big boyz.

I don't think it would be a complete waste but if you were to get a performance car like the EVO then why not get a manual transmission? And I know there's the comfort of not having to shift all the time but why did you buy an EVO? People buy EVO's cause they are performnace cars ... if you want a nice auto car just go w/ a Lancer LS, ES, or O-Z. But then again I don't think its a complete waste.

If you don't believe in tiptronics, why don't you race with a Porsche 911 (996) Turbo with tiptronic or with a new M3 with SMG2, or better yet, a Ferrari 360 modena F1.

Look, there are just some people who should NEVER, EVER be allowed near a stick. Take my friend for instance. He thinks he can drive a stick, but, I've never heard so much grinding in daily driving. That RSX he has... I give two years MAX before he needs a new tranny. Some people should just stick to press and steer driving.

I tuned up a 318i for my wife. She HATED shifting in San Francisco. Impossible to parallel-park facing up a 40% grade! She gave it back to me. She's driving an automatic Caravan SE now. Once, she asked to drive my O-Z, but it was raining and the kids were in the back. I said fagedaboudit this time.

Manumatic trannys are not bad at all!! Why? Because they let the driver focus on something very important, driving. Now, I personally don't know the fun that comes with driving a manual car ( at least until my bro's MR2 is finally resurrected), but if you drive everyday to/around San Francisco, Oakland Chinatown, probably down there in L.A. and every big city anywhere, you are very familiar with the stop and go kind of traffic, and shifting and being stuck in that kind of traffic with a manual tranny is just not fun, in fact probably frustrating as well. I'm very familiar with how a manual tranny works (I've done all the homework I can do, read up on heel-toe shifting, actual mechanics of a manual tranny, even heard of a rumor of shifting without clutch .. . . ., and a whole lot more) and I wouldn't want to be shifting in and out of gear every time I hit a traffic light. It's just not fun. In fact, it makes "driving" a big pain. Driving should be fun, I don't think it should be about shifting N->1->2->3->N->1->2->3. . . .

Since the Evo is such a great machine (As I see it, would probably compete against the likes of the BMW M3, IS300, and all those luxury sport sedans), I wouldn't want to drive it everyday knowing I won't be having fun with it. An automatic or manumatic everyday driver is something that I truly yearn for, I'll save the manuals, as was already said, for when I want to have serious fun!
But if you want to drive the monster everyday, then I seriously think that a manumatic tranny would be best. It gives you the best (as the current technology allows) of both worlds. Especially the new BMW manumatic tranny, i read something about a 3K rpm launch (SWE~~~~~T!!) hehehe. . no more brake+gas launches for us AT's! I just wish Mitsu brought over their INVECS-II sport manumatic tranny. That would've been it for me.

I just think that manual trannys are for unlimited nights and weekends, whereas the manumatics are for peak hours. ^_^
