HID 4300K or 6000K???
As the title says, I am torn between 4300K and 6000K Hid conversion kits. I know that the proper way to do this is to take the 'Retrofit' route, but I decided to settle with generic HID coversion kits due to cost and time constraints. Anyways, I would like to hear from guys who had put one of these HID conversion kits into their Evo's. As far as I know, 4300K is better for the visibility and 6000K has more bluish color to the light. The thing is that I want the kelvin rating that provides good light output as well as good color to it. Any info will be greatly appreciated.

I have a McCullogh 6000K in my Eclipse. The color of the light is similar to my Evo's when you first turn them on and they are cold, if you know what I mean. It is at the upper limit of what I would called usable light, (Philips makes the Ultinon which I think is 5800K)

Yes, 4300K is best visibility, but I don't think you will miss the performance if you go to 6000K. The difference between stock halogens and 6000Ks is grand canyon wide. You'll be very happy with both its looks and its performance. I imagine the difference bwteen 4300 and 6000K is like maybe a walk across the street.

I have 4.3k. Given a choice, I would have chose 6k!!!

I like the 4300K due to the fact that it gives out the best light output, but the thing that makes me hesitate to go with 4300K is that it might look too yellowish. Meanwhile, I also like the 6000K, but somewhat concerned that it might look too bluish or ricey?? Anyways, thanks for the help. {thumbup} |

Go with the 4300K, I'd love to see some proof of yellow coming out with 4300K. ANyone claiming it have pictures???

4300K doesn't look yellowish at all - to onlookers, that's pretty much what stock is. I never have trouble distinguishing it from the hordes of dingy halogens on the road. In other words, I can tell it is an Evo from waaaay off if one is coming towards me at night/dusk. Its just that it looks clear/pure white. I don't know what an '06 looks like under those same conditions because it looks like they have changed the optics some as the projectors actually look blue to the eye in the daytime when the lights are off. I have no idea what effect that has on one at night/dusk. Most all stock setups use ~41-4300K, it is just their optics that give the effects of a bluer appearance to onlookers, but not the light they emit.
I think you will be disapointed if you want the "blue look" if you don't get 6000K. It isn't ricey like the kids with tinted bulbs or ghey 8000 and 10000K kits. |
To those of you with HID kits in the halogen housing, do you like it? I am torn between doing the kit as well. Because I am going to be puting it into the halogen housing, should I worry about the light shooting everywhere and blinding people?

6000k
I made my decision and bought the 6000K one. I hope that it won't look too horrible. :D Anyways, I bought my kit from Xenondepot.com. Their products cost little bit more than other ones, but the quality should be little better since they use Philips bulbs and ballasts. I will take some pictures when I put them on and post them here. Thanks a lot for good advices.
