Anyone making big power on stock LICP?

So I crawled under the car last night and looked at the LICP. This pipe does shrink down to 1.5" but the pipe coming off the turbo looks the same size. I really don't see how tossing a bigger LICP on the car can honestly increase HP because all your are doing it shortening that little pipe about 4".

My question is .... are there a few of you out there that are still using the stock LICP and making 320+ whp?

definitely look at any evo9, most run stock ic pipes into the 11s...

I still have the stock ic pipe and 9.8 hotside and made about 320 WHP with my cams.

I did alot of dyno time on car with my build up and I don't remember gaining power, I know it increased peak tq some, and def helped decrease spool around 200 rpm +/-, basically increased tq at boost spike. It's a mod that helps thats for sure.

I really don't see how it could decrease spool time especially on the stock turbo. The turbo output pipe is the same size as the LICP. The two pipes aren't that much different. I know the EBAY one can be had for $80 so its not a big ticket item but I'm still curious about people making power on the stock unit.

im sure someone might agree with me, but i dont think adding a larger licp helped my car at all. no noticeable difference in spool, power ect.. maybe had a before/after dyno would prove it, but nothing that makes me think the 200 was well spent. nice peice though (ams)

I have the LICP and i noticed a difference, Def spools up quicker and response is also better, I will have some new numbers come Saturday weather permitting.

lower ic pipe waste of money?
i had before on my evo 8 and i dont think i feel the difference

I have a ix with the stock licp

put down 359 whp on a dynojet

im running my time with just downpipe, cutout, ebay fmic, filter & adapter intake, mbc, race gas, self tune, walbro

$500 in parts, $40 in c16 and self tune =-)

gotta love those ix's and a good aggresive tune =-)

i would leave it as a last mod... if u just need a litttttttle more kick, then buy it...

depending what i run a the track when i get a roll bar, valve stems and fire jacket will determine if i get a 02 housing and licp.

cheers!

The lower IC pipe for ME added some serious gains in the form of 11WHP and faster spool up not to mention better throttle response. Boost also held on for longer and tapered less. I replaced ALL my piping at once but from what I understand the lower offers 90% of the gains. Now you won't exactly feel 11WHP but you will feel the faster spool up and throttle response. The turbo hits harder for sure and control of the spool up is simply better because there is less give in the system. As a goof, go dyno your car with OEM piping and go see how much the OEM mesh expands under pressure :).

I love hard pipes, I think they should be done ASAP, I always feel a again when I did them on my 2G DSM and now on the Evo. My IX has a set on its way from LPE which fits 100% as stock. And eventually you will overrun your OEM IC clamps which blow off under boost or would leak. My 100% Stock MR kept blowing off the piping at the TB which was fixed with a T-Bolt clamp. My OEM VIII had leaks right off the showroom floor. Besides the clutch, I believe that this is the other larger problem with a stock Evo and can cause MAJOR headaches. I put on my piping ONCE and it held 100% perfect for 2 years of 28PSI spikes.

A lower pipe certainly adds power and IMHO you will notice it especially on spool up :)

so is it a waste of money to get the Injen w/upper and lower IC pipes? It's only like a $30 diffrence from the one that comes with only the UICP. Or do you think teh $30 will really help that much with improvment?

High_PSI Apr 4, 2007 02:06 PM

The Injen kit fits like POOP and I am not a fan of the filter. Nisei has teh best IC piping kit I have ever seen, it is also $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

schred86 Apr 4, 2007 02:12 PM

the nisei licp is about 130 for the steel one.
