Some Evo Issues I've Found (Pictures)

This last weekend I was changing the oil and giving a good overall cleaning and inspection when I noticed a couple things.

1) It seems that Mitsubishi did a sloppy job with the underbody panelling. It seems like they did a hackjob putting it together. Notice the NON-straight edges and shabby paint/glue/filler job. The car seems like it's 10 years older when looking at that. Anyone else noticed this?

2) It seems that is a big chip missing out of the lower trunk (above the tail lights). It looks as if a screwdriver chipped away at it (maybe something to do with the tail light installation?) I highly doubt anyone tried to break into the trunk or pop out the lights because there are no other marks. I don't know how long it's been like this, but does anyone have any ideas on how to fix that up (besides filling and painting the whole thing)?

3) When I was cleaning my rear brakes I saw something stuck in between the brake pads near the top of the calipers. After taking the calipers and popping it out, I found it was a plastic bag (now it is just a piece of brake dusted charcol). I must have run over the bag sometime and it managed to get wedged all the way up in the calipers. Crazy! What are the chances of that happening? Good thing it was in the back and not the front...

Evo people complain a lot.

Plastic bag is to help with brake squealing.

Is this car new or used?

If new then I assume that the missing paint can be a warranty repair.

The plastic bag is very odd. It looks like it was placed there. I can't imagine how running it over could have possibly got it caught under the anti-rattle spring. Very strange.

Yeah, you shouldn't complain that your 30,000 car is falling apart.

gsrboi80 Jun 25, 2007 04:02 PM

My 03 has none of the above issues

kinda weird with the bag thing...look like it was wadded up and put there, I dont think it would have gotten caught and amde a bal of its self.

Yeah, I bought it new. (Although it had like 70 miles cause it was driven from Rockford). But you really think Mitsubishi will cover it under warrenty?

Yeah that's what I was thinking! Makes me wonder..... Atleast it wasn't anything serious. [It has to be there for the anti-brake squealing...]

Don't worry, i'm not really complaining. Just commenting. My car is no where near perfect. Plus I NEVER plan on selling it and I drive it daily, so i don't care to much. It was worth every penny. (Maybe if I dropped 100K on it that might be a different issue) BTW, I only have ~10k miles on it (not to sound like a dick {thumbup} )

You sure you have nobody that hates you. That plastic bag thing is pretty weird.

sblvro Jun 25, 2007 07:35 PM

dealers are known to sell you a new car even if it was wrecked before having it titled.

 thats really weird...

I think this guy loves his car a little to much, sometimes we can get to "obsessed" with our cars. what it looks like underneath the car is like looking at how the seams look underneath your sofa couch. I bet if you look underneath a $200,000 it probably wont have clean cuts and look all shiney.
I understand a little bit where he is coming from, i mean if its to extreme then ya complain but a little bit of inconsistancy is no big deal.

That is funny, but that's exactly what I thought the second I saw it. I wouldn't doubt if some moron tired it :(
