Small Coolant Leak

So I was pulling out of my drive way today and noticed a small puddle had formed. So I stopped the car and check and it seems that I have a small coolant leak on the passenger side about wheel deep. It only happens when the car is idleing. Can anyone give me some guidance here? I was thinking it might be the water pump?

No thick white smoke coming out of the exhaust.

Yeah, most likely your waterpump.

Look at the weep hole. Might be from there.

KJS Nov 24, 2011 12:32 PM

What does that look like and what can I do if it's the weep hole?

The car is at 37k, would it be smart to just do the timing belt and the water pump if that's the cause just because you have to take everything off to get to the water pump?

Also how quickly should I be worried about fixing this? I have a tub of coolant in my trunk to keep filling the escaping coolant, so could it wait a couple of weeks?

I have the same issue. Mine is leaking down the side of the block on the passenger side. I can't figure it out. It keeps getting worse.

Downside the block... might be a blown gasket?

Mine isn't down the block is leaking from the bottom of something about wheel deep... I'll get the car on jacks Sunday and see If I can get some pictures

Blown head gasket?

KJS Nov 24, 2011 01:26 PM

I dont really think I blew my head gasket because there is no white smoke coming out of my engine and nothing out of the ordinary happened...

How long does coolant take to get into the oil system?

Still looking for answers for some of the questions above.

Thanks in advanced.

I was actually referring to your reply. ^^^ what gasket are you talking about that I might have blown?

bigben Nov 24, 2011 08:47 PM

I had an aftermarket waterpump that's had a very slow leak for the past 2 years. Well, it's leaks down to a certain point, and then stops.

Head Gasket. Search on here for a thousand threads of symptoms

There is no coolant on my block or near it. My leak is from the bottom of something on the bottom of the engine bay. I finally got some time to take a closer look, but it was dark, it might actually be a hose.

Ill get some pictures up in the next few days for some more clarification.

check all hoses first before thinking the worst

You don't have to have white smoke for a blown head gasket.
