Engine Turns, car won't start
Hi guys/gals,
I need your expertise on narrowing down the reason my car won't start. I read on a few threads of similar situations like mines. And none gave a definitive answers or the OP never responded back to the helpers. My problem start last night as I was literally 80-100 feet from my mailbox the car shut off while cruising (maybe 15-25mph). I noticed all my lights were well lit, ALL ACD lights came on I left the lights on and rolled down my driver way. I tried starting it up nothing. The car turned perfectly like it always does. All interior lights bright. My battery is 1yr. old No mechanical mods for the past 6months, only guage install. I tried jumping the car, it only cranks like it on's to start. I tried pulling one of my plugs and sticking a screw driver in it to see if I see any spark. Nothing. Are my Coilpack dead? Can coilpack go dead when cruising that slow. And there is no Check engine light? |
I would probably start by checking your codes if your service engine light is on.

If there is no spark, could be bad crank position sensor. See if you can get the Mitsu reference values to test the resistance of it and see if it's in spec. I would also suggest checking your fuel pump, but if you are 100% sure there is no spark that's probably not the case. Also, is there no spark from all 4 cyl? If so, I would start by checking that CPS

check out my topic i had...sounds like the same issue i had couple days ago. ses light was not on..car turned over perfectly but no start. to make a long story short i narrowed it down to the fuel pump relays or fuel pump itself..it turned out to be the fuel pump. unplug youre battery then plug it in again and listen for the fuel pump motor filling itself up in the driver side back seat. if you dont here it..you know what youre problem is.
here is my topic hope it helps: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...-no-start.html |

He said the SES light isn't on. I would still make sure both the cam and crank angle sensors are good first.

something came unplugged or bad fuel pump is my guess

I was susupecting something came unloose too. I replaced the fuel pump yesterday after noticing it doesn't make noise when I turned the key ON, so I replaced it with a new walbro. Still nothing - no noise from the fuel pump. Would a crank angle sensor stop fuel pump from turn ON? -I'm suspecting three things; Crank angle Sensor, Relay switch to fuel pump or a fuse. Funny thing is that the crank turns like it always does. Battery is strong and fuel is where it suppose to be. And still no SES light |

This may sound off topic but when you open you're engine cap, does the oil smell like gasoline?
|
fuel system would be an easy thing to exclude if you had a fuel rail pressure sensor.
if you don't see a spark, then it must be your camshaft/crank sensors, coils and spark plugs rarely die all of a sudden. service manual details the diagnostics procedure, so you may want to see it first. |
Check all of your fuses. I had one blow while driving and completely killed the car.
|
Fuse 8 under the hood.

Thanks guys. I was finally able to resolve the issue. It was indeed a fuse blown. There was a old thread with exact symptoms as mine. It turned out to be Fuse #8 Engine Control. It simulates defective coilpack, crank angle sensor and fuel pump issues.
