Evo 8 replacement key
I lost one of my keys and am looking to see if anyone has had good luck with replacing theirs with a non oem key. I want to get a few in case another is lost.
Anyone done this or is OEM the only key that works?
Keys no problem, transponder can be wonky.
No, you can only use a programmed key to start the Evo. Its tied to the immobilizer.
You could turn off immob. system or program a new transponder but you gotta have a good key to try that wonky process. You could also get a new key programmed by whoever you pay but that's gonna cost ya.
https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...ogramming.html Oh snap, you need 2 to program new! I lost my only work van key and the mobile key guy came and spit out a new one...for 400$... |
I have 1 OEM Key, my other one was lost. I cannot turn of Immobilizer due to being in CA and needing my CVN and CAL ID to pass smog. I am looking for a replacement key but since I want to buy a few, OEM is costly and the local Mitsubishi doesn't cut keys.
Find a mobile key guy and ask if they can cut and program off VIN, worked for the van but like I said, cost 400$.
Ive contacted a few locksmiths, they are quoting me $90 for aftermarket key and cut, no programming. Just hard to pay $90 when a oem key is around there.

Try to see if you can get the dealership to match an online mitsubishi parts store. The part number for the key is 6370A064. Online stores have it for $60-75.

That's where it gets wonky, making sure you have the correct chip. I have 2 that wont take program...

I have messed with my keys a bit. Those 2 chips don't wanna work or I'm doing it wrong. As far as I can find it's 4D61 chip but I personally do not know how to identify visually what exact chips I have as there are a few that look pretty much the same. And my old man eyes aren't so good at tiny as they once were. |

Good point, maybe I should go to a key guy and see if they can clone with the machine or let me know if I got junk or what. Or I wait until the cloner cost 50$ and just buy one.
