Evo 8 won't start, replaced crankshaft position sensor.
 

My Evo 8 won't start again. One day after my car unable to start, a friend jumpstarted my car and it worked, but it threw a CEL code for the crankshaft position sensor. I went to get that replaced and shop said my starter was being sticky. Next day the car wouldn't start and I rolled it a tiny bit (not much room for a rolling start), and kept cranking the car and it miraculously started up with the same CEL. Finally, car was jumpstarted yet again two days ago, CEL came up again from the same sensor. Ran and drove just fine. But didn't start again today. So I'm thinking there's something else besides the starter. Could it possibly be the ignition, fuse box, or even a wiring issue? Not only this, but when I try to start the car I only hear a single click and the no start.

Attached below is the sound of me attempting to start the car, countdown beeping is from the Blitz turbo timer. (this was before the crank sensor replacement, but it's still the same after getting the replacement)

TLDR: Car threw CEL for crank position sensor, car wouldn't start, replaced said sensor, car don't start again but only somehow works by jumpstart via another car.

When you say doesn't start, are you getting cranking or not? I can't open the links.

Nothing other than a single click. It's likely the starter since it's sticky, but for something else on top of that I've dumbed it down to the ignition, alternator, or even a wiring issue.

Sounds like it could be the ignition issue a bunch of us have dealt with. Below is a link to the thread where the options are talked about. I tested by jumping 12v directly to I think pin 5 of the starter relay before wiring an additional relay in. I have plans to open the fuse box and actually rewire it this spring.

You either have a bad map sensor or starter issues.

fix the jumpstarting situation first. you need good CCA to diagnose your actual problem. test direct power to the starter solenoid (pin 5 of the starter relay). If that works that means you have the common ignition problem which can be addressed

Update: It was the starter. Got it replaced and everything starts up consistently and smoothly so far. Shop said the previous starter was sticky/intermittent and wasn't catching properly to the flywheel, and it somehow was heating up the crankshaft position sensor causing it to throw a code. Checked the voltage to the alternator, starter solenoid and it was all good.
