evo IX problem! please help!
Hey guys. I have an evo IX GSR (06') with about 14k miles on it. Recently I have noticed some serious loss in power. the weird part about it is that it seems ok sometimes but MUCH slower sometimes. It feels liek when I am revving out at times the car has knock, or for some reason the ecu is retarding timing or something.....anyways my question is....what can be causing this? Sometimes it feels good up until 4th gear when boost seems to drastically drop (at least i think) or somehow the car jes dies out an feels ALOT weaker. Anyway The car is bone stock, and I am new to evos an turbo cars in general so any help would be appreciated. I am just very worried that something can be wrong with my car!!! I do drive it hard often but nothing crazy. Also the temperature is good. I do not have a boost guage so i cant check how much its boosting......can it be IC piping popped off? how can i tell? Thanks in advance....sorry for the long thread.
I'm just using logic here, but I would say put it on a dyno and see how that compares to other stock IX's. If there is a significant decrease in your car's output then there might be a problem.
There could be a few things going on, I am no expert but I will mention some stuff to check out. First off it wouldn't be your intercooler piping "poping off" because if it was you would be driving along and loose pretty much all power and it would stay that way tell it is fixed. Also we are getting into the summer months and compared to when it is alot cooler out your stock intercooler is not going to be as efficent and that could slow things down a tab bit. If I were you the very first thing I would try is doing a complete boost leak test on the car to make sure you have no leaks because that could and would amount to loss in power and depending on how big the leak is would determine how much power is being lost. If I were you I would really invest in a boost gauge so you can monitor what is going on with the boost. Just my 2 cents.
Edit: One other thing I forgot to mention is try unplugging your battery cables for about 15-20min to reset the ECU.

I've had a throttle body boost leak and i lost around 7psi in the higher gears like you over 6000rpm...listen for an air leak
Another point I might add is that since you have 14,000 miles the car doesnt feel fast anymore for you since the first day you got it..same thing happened to me then I started depleting my wallet
I think its time you pop her cherry too.
