Porting O2 housing + exhaust manifold
Porting O2 housing + exhaust manifold
Hey Guys,
Just did my first porting job on my stock 02 housing and cleaned out my muse manifold. Take and look and let me know what you guys think. Any tips would be great.
Thx

Constructive criticism is great and please don't get upset over my comments. If this was your first porting attempt then it isn't that bad.
Things you need to work on though:
Before you even start to grind anything you need to first mark the area at which you are going to take off. I find the best way to do this is to coat the flange with a colored spray paint, let it dry and then put your gasket on top and with a sharp tool trace the gasket(this is only for the turbo side of the manifold and 02 housing). This ensures accuracy and takes the guess work out of the equation. The lines will also help keep you hand steady as I see it is a little sloppy.
Also what bits are you using? Since cast iron is so tough you should use carbide burrs to start out with and then move on to a stone and lastly sand paper wheels for a better finish. You have a lot of craters in your porting and that will allow carbon deposits to build up.
Hope this helps.

+1 not bad for a first job, next time try to get the port as smooth as possible so that the air has less to catch on" true story", this is a GREAT write up on porting to read and i suggest it to all.

I would check the hole in the waste gate. It isn't very big. You can port a bit out of it to limit boost creep and let the waste gate not work as hard.
Othere than that I think you are doing a great job. You will certainly appreciate your efforts.
As for how smooth to make it; after time the heat and carbon will smooth or fill any minor imperfections. Sure smoother is better but did you take notice of how rough they were stock??
Oh and a couple areas I did notice that 1, you might consider doing a tad more is the outlet side of the hotside. You can round the outlet a bit to increase laminar flow and 2, in the exhaust mani there are a couple restrictuons moulded in on the outlet side. If you stick your finger in it you will feel what I am talking about. Just try and round them as best as you can.
Again....GREAT JOB ! !

Boost controlled by ecu.
Stock Evo 8 turbo
Ported Stock Manifold
Ported 10.5 Hotside
Ported Stock O2 housing
