AEM Intake and HKS SSQ installs

I just got my AEM intake/HKS SSQ and I was wondering if anyone has any install diys around for them? I also bought the HKS SSQ but that's coming tomorrow. Would it be easier to install the BOV first?

Thanks!

I tried installing the SSQV, but the C-clip was way to hard to get into place.

My freind is experiencing the same problem. That C clip is hard to get into the flange. Well, for myself, I got teh EVO VII kit with the flange installed already, so I didnt have that problem.

Re: AEM Intake and HKS SSQ installs

Do the installation at the same time. You save time and efford.

Good luck with the installation.

I've heard mixed options on the VTA.. some say their cars bog, some say they have no problems at all. I'm going to give VTA a shot and if I experiance problems, I will buy the recirc kit. I have an SAFCII anyway, so I'll try tweaking with it.

I got the intake in, but my bov shipped late so I'll be installing that hopefully today

Install the intake first since you'll have to take the BOV out to install the intake anyway...

About the C-clip, find a mechanic or a turbo speed shop, they probably have the right tool. Or you can just go buy a long set of needlenose plyers and dremel the tip a little so it fits in the C-clamp holes. That's what I did.

I installed the SSQV long ago and just installed the AEM short ram. Here's the scoop so far plus a few tips:

*After adjusting the SSQV to perform beautifully (not to mention that it sounds nice now), I think I have to tune my BOV again. My SSQV barely goes off now with the short ram installed, making low fluttering noises instead of the higher pitch flutter and the PSSSHHH sound. I'll make several runs and post updates on this matter. If anyone has any suggestions or help tips, please let me know.

*The steps that comes with the intake are so bad in inefficiency. If you follow the steps to the letter, it's gonna make it harder on yourself. Simple examples: They tell you to attach the vacuum line from the boost solenoid after they tell you to attach the inlet pipe to turbo inlet and they tell you to attach the filter onto the inlet pipe before you put on the heat shield. You can still do this, but it will make it harder for you. Suggestion: READ SEVERAL STEPS AHEAD and PLAN AHEAD. That way, you know what you need to do later without following the steps exactly but still accomplish your goal. You may need to skip one or two steps ahead and then go back and etc. It's faster and easier, trust me.

*When you connect the coupler, inlet pipe, MAS assembly, and filter, make sure you connect them as far as it can go. Example, when you connect the MAS assembly to the inlet pipe, push it so there is no gap in the coupler and the inlet pipe and MAS is flush with each other. If you don't, the filter will stick up and out and will hit the underside of your hood like I heard from some of the people who have installed the short ram already. Basically, when you connect something, just make sure it goes as far as it can go without damaging anything.

I have yet make full run tests with the short ram installed. I will post further details regarding this soon.

Just as a tip, the Decel feature on the SAFC II doesn't work with the EVO, I just went through this and it doesn't work with the MAF. You can't tune out the VTA issue. The only way to keep your car from stalling is the buy the recirculating kit. I tryed everything possible to get the car to keep from stalling and running dog rich when shifting.

idle issue

my friend has like a 92' TALON tsi and had the idling issue as well on vta, im installing a vta bov on my evo friday, he fixed his idling problem by raising his idle to about 1300, will this be ok? and then on hot days just let turbotimer shut it off, that work? i know high idle is annoying but will this fix it for the evo?>

Did you have any fitment issues with the BOV (Stock or aftermarket)?

I was using the stock valve but I couldn't get it to sit flush in the inlet pipe so I took it back to stock.
